JAMES RIVER KNOCKS OFF STAUNTON RIVER 56-51

James River surprised Staunton River with a third-quarter spurt to win their non-district girls' basketball game 56-51 on Monday night in Buchanan.

Amy Sprinkle scored nine of her 19 points in the third quarter to propel the Knights (10-9). James River outscored the Golden Eagles 16-7 in the third, when Staunton River's Penny Forrest got into foul trouble. Forrest fouled out early in the fourth quarter after scoring 12 points for the Golden Eagles (10-9).

James River sealed the victory by making eight of 12 free throws in the fourth quarter.

Staunton River's Stephanie Alexander led all scorers with 20 points.
