A former youth worker at Lakeside Baptist Church in Salem has been charged with 10 sex-related charges in Kane County, Ill.
Detective Tim Bosshart of the Child Advocacy Center, a division of the Illinois state attorney's office, said the charges stemmed from actions over a period of a year between Bryan P. Buckley, 27, and a member of his youth group at the Christ Community Church in St. Charles, Ill. No physical force was involved in the sexual involvement with the under-16 minor, Bosshart said.
Buckley was charged with four counts of sexual assault, five counts of aggravated sexual abuse and one count of sexual exploitation of a child, he said.
The Rev. Art Hearne, pastor of Lakeside Baptist, said Thursday that Buckley worked with youth there on weekends about four years ago while he was a student at Liberty University in Lynchburg.
Bosshart contacted the Salem Police Department about the charges but said there is no evidence of misconduct by Buckley while he was at the Salem church.
