A 19-year-old Virginia Tech student was killed late Thursday night after she was thrown from her car.
Michelle Lee Donofrio, 19, of Ashburn in Loudoun County was driving west on Virginia 685 about six-tenths of a mile from Magnolia Lane when her car sideswiped a car in the on-coming lane, according to a Virginia State Police spokesman. The accident occurred about five miles west of Blacksburg on a remote section of Prices Fork Road.
Police said Donofrio's car left the right side of the road, hit an embankment and overturned about 11:45 p.m. Donofrio, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from her car and died immediately.
Donna Donofrio, Michelle's mother, said her daughter was a sophomore at Tech majoring in Spanish. The 19-year-old enjoyed running in road races and recently ran in the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, D.C., her mother said.
Donofrio is survived by her parents, Donna and Edward; and her brothers, Greg, 21, Jason, 10, and Joey, 7.
Memorials can be sent to the Michelle Donofrio Scholarship Fund in care of Ken Hall, Broad Run High School, Ashburn, Va. 20147.
