LUCAS, NARROWS KINGS OF MOUNTAIN EMPIRE

Bud Lucas scored Narrows' last four points as the Green Wave defeated Galax 43-40 Saturday in overtime to win a playoff to determine the Mountain Empire District regular-season champion.

With under a minute to play in overtime and Narrows trailing Galax 40-39, Lucas - who had been two of 10 on free throws previously - hit two free throws. Lucas stole the ball and hit a lay-up with 20 seconds left. The Maroon Tide missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer. see microfilm for box score
