ROANOKER SHATTERS OWN BOWLING MARK

It was deja vu all over again for Sheila Hicks on Tuesday night.

The Roanoke bowler didn't roll the 300 game for which she was striving. Instead, she rolled a 755 set at Hilltop Lanes to break the Roanoke Valley Women's Bowling Association series record.

Hicks ran into the same situation in August, when she missed a 300 game but set the RVWBA series record with a 737 at All-Star Lanes.

The First Union branch analyst had games of 279, 276 and 200 on Tuesday night.

``On the second game, I had a 300 game going,'' Hicks said. ``I had the first nine in a row, but I got nervous.''

Hicks, 33, wasn't slated to bowl in the Dixie Bell League on Tuesday. ``The team had two people out tonight and needed somebody, so I told them I would help out,'' she said.

Now, she's glad she did.

``I'm still a little nervous, hyper,'' she said. ``Once I can get rid of all the nervous jitters, I'll be really excited.''
