NEIGHBORHOOD NAMES EAST

CHARLES M. JAMES has received the Mary and Jack Conrey 1996 Volunteer of the Year Award from the Roanoke Valley chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.

James was named for his service on the chapter's board of directors and for his work in chairing and serving on various committees over the years.

JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT OF SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA has announced the following officers and directors for 1996-1997:

Donald E. Lorton, chairman; Arthur L. Pendleton, chairman-elect; T. Joe Crawford, immediate past chairman; Fred Hatch, secretary; and David Swain, treasurer.

New directors are Gene Berry, Beth Doughty, Robert Diesel,Martha Good, Keitha Lackey, Carol Ornes, Randy Smith, Cathi Weber and Libba Wolfe.

Two Roanoke residents, MYRTLE HOOKER and RUTH M.V. FREDERICK, were among the winners in the the 23rd annual Foot of Hills Arts & Crafts Show. Hooker received an honorable mention for her watercolor, "Along the Brazzos." Frederick received a merit award for "Mood Indigo," a pastel.
