A former Roanoker living in Pennsylvania died in an apparent murder-suicide Halloween morning.
Troy D. Eakin, 32, of Newville was found shot to death in the driveway of a home in Carlisle about 10:30 a.m. Oct.31, Cumberland County Coroner Michael Norris said.
When police arrived and found Eakin, the suspected gunman was inside the house. Officers thought he was holding hostages, Norris said.
About 3:30 p.m., with police receiving no response from the suspect, a special response team entered the home. Officers found the body of Gregory Holter, 27, of the residence. Holter had shot himself sometime before police entered, Norris said.
There were no hostages.
The circumstances leading up to the shooting are still under investigation. The coroner refused to release any information related to the cause of the shootings.
"Who would it serve? [The shooter] has family, as does the deceased. Our first concern has to be to the families of the dead," Norris said. "There is no criminal culpability, so there is no purpose in releasing further information."
