GRAPHIC DESIGN COMPANY HIRES ART DIRECTOR

JEFFREY KENNARD has been hired by Katie Wallace Design, a Roanoke graphic design company, as art director.

The Texas native previously was art director for Rapp Collins Worldwide, an advertising agency in Irving, Texas; a production artist with The Houston Chronicle; and a Macintosh specialist for Sullivan Perkins, a Dallas graphic design studio. Also, he was head of his own free-lance business, Manchester Graphics.

DEITZ has joined KPMG Peat Marwick in Roanoke as an information technology specialist. He formerly was a system administrator with Education Systems Corp. in Salem. Additionally, JENNIFER C. FERGUSON has joined the accounting firm's tax staff. She previously was employed by American Electric Power Co.

BANKING

MainStreet BankGroup Inc. has elected GEORGE KOSTEL to its board of directors. Kostel is chairman and president of First National Bank of Clifton Forge, the newest affiliate in the Martinsville-based MainStreet group of community banks.

NONPROFITS

J. RANDOLPH EDWARDS has joined the American Red Cross, Appalachian Regional Blood Services in Roanoke, as chief executive officer. He formerly worked for Carilion Health System as senior vice president of corporate development.

STEPHEN A. ESWORTHY has been appointed director of community programs and special events at Roanoke College. Esworthy comes to the college from Fidura & Associates Inc., a Richmond-based social-service agency, where he was the Roanoke regional manager. Esworthy also has worked in a number of local and statewide political campaigns.

HEALTH CARE

DRS. STEVEN RIDEOUT, LEONARD J. COHEN and ALEXANDER WILGUS have joined the staff at Carilion Bedford Memorial Hospital. Rideout has joined the Village Family Physicians Inc. in Moneta. Cohen and Wilgus have joined Physicians Associates in Bedford.

RETAIL

MARK S. NEWCOMB has been appointed design director at Chi-chek International Florist & Fine Gifts in Roanoke. He will be responsible for teaching floral design seminars and managing a team of designers. Newcomb has 20 years of floral-design experience, including designs for the Presidential Inaugural in 1993 and the Rose Bowl Parade in 1996. He was the floral director and designer at The Homestead resort hotel in Hot Springs from 1988 to 1995.
