RED LOBSTER ORGANIZING FEAST FOR NEEDY

About two dozen Red Lobster employees have volunteered part of their Thanksgiving Day to serve food to the needy in the New River Valley area. The group is seeking donations for the Thanksgiving Feast, which will be served at the Red Lobster restaurant on Peppers Ferry Road from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 28.

Ed Sansone, associate manager of the restaurant, is organizing the event. Sansone moved to Christiansburg from upstate New York in May when the restaurant opened. He said his former restaurant started the Thanksgiving Feast a few years ago and now several other Red Lobsters across the country also offer it.

"I really liked it and I really wanted to carry it on when I moved down here," Sansone said. "It's just something I thought of doing for the community, doing something around the holidays."

The feast is intended for the less fortunate people and those who don't have a place to go for the holiday. He expects 75 to 150 people from the community to attend the traditional dinner, which will include turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and pie. He is seeking donations from local stores to help with the fixings. Whatever is not contributed will be purchased by the restaurant, which will be closed to patrons on Thanksgiving Day.

To get word out about the dinner, Sansone has contacted local social and community service agencies and will also distribute a flier.

Anyone interested in donating food to the dinner can call Sansone at 381-3760.
