CFW EXPANSION TO CREATE 160 JOBS

CFW Communications Co. of Waynesboro said it is expanding its directory-assistance business, creating 160 full-time jobs to be divided between its operator centers in Waynesboro and Clifton Forge.

CFW said Thursday the expansion is based on a letter of intent the company received from a major phone company, but it provided no other details of a contract or client. CFW offers directory-assistance operator services through its subsidiary, CFW Information Services Inc.

David Maccarelli, president of the subsidiary, said hiring and training should begin in December, with the increased calling volume expected in early 1997.

CFW Communications is a diversified telecommunications company offering telephone, paging, cellular, Internet, wireless cable television and other services. About 200 people in the two directory-assistance centers handle more than 100,000 calls on an average business day, CFW said.
