Lewis-Gale Clinic Inc. of Salem, the state's largest physician-owned clinic, said it completed on Friday a deal to become affiliated with PhyCor Inc., a medical practice management company based in Nashville, Tenn. Terms of the transaction were not released.
The clinic building, which connects to Lewis-Gale Medical Center, has been bought by Healthcare Realty Trust Inc. of Nashville. No other details were available about the real estate agreement.
With the acquisition, however, PhyCor now has 300 affiliated physicians in Virginia. It also has groups in Richmond and Tidewater and part of its plan is to market the groups as a network of health care providers.
Lewis-Gale Clinic, which has 140 physicians, won't change its name, however, and patients should see no change because of the new ownership, said Lyndell Brooke, clinic president.
