CIRCA 1920

A question I've been asked often, "How did you get so interested in antiques and old things?" is one that I have had trouble answering. There are so many reasons something interests you. It's hard to give an answer that doesn't ramble on and on.

I share with you a poem that I received in the mail from one of my readers. It answered the question for me.

Circa 1920

Dirty and forgotten, alone on a shelf.

Once a center of attention, now, all by itself.

How many owners and how many homes?

Where has it been and what has it known?

Nearly 70 years is such a long time

to avoid breaking and cracking and remain so fine!

'Till now it's become this precious antique.

For one special person who knows what they seek.

Recognize the obscure pieces you know.

Barter and bargain for prices so low.

Searching and dealing is the reason you came.

The fun and the chase, all part of the game

Cradle and carry your new prize away.

This little treasure has just made your day.

Submerge and cleanse, baptize and resurrect.

Provide new life for what you collect.

Oh, what a rare gift for you to bestow.

For now its beauty and value will grow.

To live ever after and never grow old.

If only a human could fit this mold.
