A telephone scam is falsely using the name of the Christiansburg Kiwanis Club to solicit funds, according to the organization.
A caller representing himself as a club member offers ticket sales for the "Famous Hollywood Magic Circus," an event said to benefit underprivileged children.
"The Kiwanis Club of Christiansburg wants to make it known to our many friends and supporters in the Christiansburg area that this is not our fund-raising activity," Jerry Higgins, club president, wrote.
"We have never raised funds that way, we are not doing so now, and have no intention of doing so in the future," Higgins said.
Kiwanis has never authorized a professional fund-raiser to solicit funds over the telephone, he added.
