The value of building permits in the Roanoke Valley exceeded $14.4 million last month, compared with $8.8 million a year ago and $7.5 million in 1994. About $5.2 million of the total was in Roanoke, $6.7 million in Roanoke County, and $2.5 million in Salem. Roanoke recorded $1.13 million for a skilled-care nursing facility on U.S. 220 near Hunting Hills Plaza and a $1.34 million addition to Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church. Salem reported $796,000 for a Rite Aid drug store. The county had 46 permits for single-family homes.
