The Roanoke Express snapped a three-game road losing streak Wednesday with a 7-5 victory over the Knoxville Cherokees in an East Coast Hockey League game.
Jeff Jablonski and Chris Lipsett scored two goals each, and Ilya Dubkov, Matt O'Dette and Duane Harmer tallied a pair of assists apiece for the Express.
The victory was the fifth in a row for Roanoke (10-8-1), which remains in second place in the East Division. Roanoke returns home to face the Charlotte Checkers at 7:30 p.m. tonight.
Roanoke scored three consecutive first-period goals to take a lead it would not relinquish. Jablonski opened the scoring with his 10th goal. Kyle Millar and Sean Brown beat Knoxville goalie Brad Guzda to push the advantage to 3-1.
With the Express leading 6-5, Lipsett lit the lamp with 3:03 remaining, giving Roanoke an insurance goal. Roanoke peppered Guzda with 45 shots, 22 in the opening period. Express goalie Dave Gagnon picked up his ninth victory, turning away 23 of 28 shots.
