MIDSHIPMAN GARRETT L. LANCASTER JR. of Roanoke was recently accepted to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y.

Lancaster was appointed to the academy by Rep. Bob Goodlatte, R-Roanoke.

ARMY PVT. FORREST L. SEAGLE IV, son of Lem and Denise Battle of Salem and Forrest and Deb Seagle of Roanoke, recently completed basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C.

Seagle is training in network switching systems at Fort Gordon, Ga.
