DENNIS K. GOODMAN, who is an associate with The Franklin Life Insurance Co., has passed the Series 6 and 63 securities exams. He is now able to sell variable annuities and mutual funds offered by the American Franklin Life Insurance Co. and Franklin Financial Services.
PATRICK W. GRAVES has been awarded the certified residential specialist (CRS) designation by the Residential Sales Council, an affiliate of the National Association of Realtors. Graves is an associate broker with Gearhart-Stevens Realtors. He has been a Realtor in Roanoke for more than 15 years.
T.D. STEELE of Roanoke has been elected a delegate to the 113th annual meeting of the American Angus Association, which meets in November in Louisville, Ky. Steele was elected by fellow members at the state level of the cattle-breed organization.
SOUTHERN REFRIGERATION CORP., a distributor of heating and cooling products in Roanoke, has earned the Heil Elite Club award for outstanding performance in six areas of distributorship operation. The award was presented by Inter-City Products Corp., a Tennessee-based company that manufactures Heil heating and cooling products.
DR. R. DOUGLAS ROSS has received the Academy of General Dentistry's fellowship award at the academy's annual meeting. To earn the award, he completed more than 500 hours of continuing education courses within 10 years and passed an exam. Ross has had a private practice in Roanoke since 1988.
ROGER VEST, a highway construction inspector with the Virginia Department of Transportation's Salem District, recently was cited for his outstanding contribution to VDOT's construction program. Smith was selected by his fellow workers in Roanoke, Botetourt and Craig counties. As an inspector, he is responsible for monitoring road construction projects to ensure that certain criteria are being met by contracting firms employed by VDOT.
GUDRUN FREEMAN, a partner with Center for Family Counseling in Roanoke, recently sat on a panel of experts in counseling to create exam questions for national board certification. Freeman and 11 other clinicians devised questions that are presented to candidates for board certification as clinical mental health counselors.
GEORGIA BRANSCOM CARTER, formerly of Roanoke, has been named vice president, marketing and customer services, at CNG Transmission Corp.'s headquarters in Clarksburg, W.Va. She had been assistant vice president of marketing since 1996. She joined CNG as an attorney in the legal section in 1983.
PAULINE G. O'BRIEN, formerly of Roanoke, has been named vice president of Greystone Realty Corp., a real estate asset management, consulting and development firm based in Greenwich, Conn. O'Brien joined Greystone from Equitable Real Estate Investment Management Inc., where she was an asset manager for 11 years.
JACK RADER was honored by Wheat First Butcher Singer with the James C. Wheat Jr. Community Service Award, which is given annually to associates for outstanding contributions to their communities. Rader retired from Wheat First in June after 34 years of service, most recently as managing director and district manager for Western Virginia. He has held leadership positions with the National Association of Securities Dealers; has served on the Botetourt County School Board for 16 years; was on the advisory board of University of Virginia's McIntire School of Commerce for 10 years, and has been president of the Virginia Student Aid Foundation.
WANDA P. SEARS and EDWARD R. BARNES, personal financial advisers with American Express Financial Advisors Inc., have been named "Master Advisors" for their sales performance and for exceeding financial planning and client service requirements.
MICHAEL L. KIDD has been promoted to assistant vice president of First Citizens Bank in Raleigh, N.C., where he is an audit supervisor. The Roanoke native is also second vice president for the Institute of Internal Auditors.
BONNIE NEWBOLD was honored with the Circle of Achievement award at Mary Kay Inc.'s annual business seminar in Dallas. She received the award for exceeding unit retail cosmetic sales of $300,000. The unit led by Newbold had retail production totaling $402,527.50 during the past year.
PITZER TRANSFER AND STORAGE CORP. in Roanoke, a subsidiary of Canton, Ohio-based People Services Inc., has been recognized with ISO 9002 registration through Underwriters Laboratories Inc. ISO, the Switzerland-based International Standards Organization, has issued a series of standards for businesses to ensure a high level of quality control.
THE LONGABERGER CO. has recognized Pat Dean of Vinton for generating annual sales of more than $45,000 and for annual sponsorship of more than five new qualified sales associates. Also recognized were Tammy Campbell of Roanoke and Carolyn Gordon of Vinton for annual sales totaling more than $35,000 and Paula Vandegriff and Mary Jo Thompson, both of Roanoke, for generating more than $20,000 in annual sales. The Longaberger Co., based in Dresden, Ohio, produces baskets, pottery, dinnerware and accessories and wrought-iron products that are sold through home shows.
The Roanoke Regional Home Builders Association Inc. has named FRALIN & WALDRON INC. its 1996 Star Award winner. This award is given to the builder member firm that has received the most points from associate member firms during the competition year. Builder members earn points from associate member firms with whom they have business contacts.
The association named SHEILA ROSE DOOLEY, building-permits clerk for Roanoke County, 1996 Public Employee of the Year. She was cited for going beyond the call of duty to help home builders with their problems and concerns.
WILLIAM H. SPENCER III of Roanoke, agency manager for The Franklin Life Companies in Southwestern Virginia, has been granted the Life Underwriter Training Council (LUTC) Fellow professional designation after meeting training and educational requirements and membership and ethical standards set by the council. Spencer is a member of the Roanoke Valley Life Underwriters Association and has been active in the life insurance profession for 29 years.
JANE S. GLENN recently was named Boss of the Year at the Roanoke Valley Legal Secretaries Association's annual Bosses Night. She is a partner in the firm Jones & Glenn. Also, CONNIE VERON was named Member of the Year. She is employed at the law firm of Mundy, Rogers & Frith.
