One of West Virginia coach Don Nehlen's lieutenants has fired a verbal shot at Virginia Tech as the teams prepare for their football game Saturday at Lane Stadium.
Steve Dunlap, the Mountaineers' defensive coordinator, says Virginia Tech's offensive line commits the most holding penalties in the Big East Football Conference - and gets away with it.
``I've coached 21 years and we've never seen anything like it,'' Dunlap said Monday on a Metro-News statewide radio show. ``It's been a consensus throughout the Big East, with the Big East coaches, that Virginia Tech has become a flagrant holding team. It's just ridiculous.''
Frank Beamer, the Hokies' coach, said Wednesday, ``I'm not sure what the goal is in making public statements.''
Dan Wooldridge, supervisor of Big East officials, said he has not received more complaints about Virginia Tech than any other team.
``If there are coaches in the league as upset [as Dunlap], they have not called me or filed reports,'' Wooldridge said.
