The names of Roanoke Circuit Court Judge Richard Pattisall and reporter Laurence Hammack were misspelled in a story Friday.
A Roanoke man was sentenced Thursday to 30 years in prison for sexually molesting his 8-year-old daughter.
The 34-year-old man, who is not being named to protect his daughter's identity, pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated sexual battery earlier this year, according to Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Wanda DeWease.
The man was charged in February, after his daughter reported the offenses to a school counselor. DeWease said the incidents took place in a relative's home and a vacant house.
In 1987, the man was convicted of raping and sodomizing a 25-year-old mentally disabled woman in Botetourt County, DeWease said. He was released from prison in 1994, and stopped going to counseling sessions after he was taken off probation.
The man testified that he was sexually abused as a child, and again as a prison inmate after being convicted of the Botetourt County charges.
DeWease had asked that he receive a maximum sentence of 40 years. But Roanoke Circuit Judge Richard Pettishly sentenced him to 40 years with 10 suspended, and ordered that he be placed on probation for five years following his release.
