Parents of an 11-year-old girl could face drug charges after she reported them to police for smoking marijuana.
The girl told investigators her parents have smoked marijuana for more than two years, according to Eric Heflin, an investigator for the Frederick County commonwealth's attorney's office. She learned what marijuana looks like in a Drug Abuse Resistance Education class, he said.
``She said she did not want to live in a house where this was going on,'' said Heflin, who declined to release the names of the family members to protect the child's identity.
Heflin said no arrests have been made in the case, but said plant material seized in an Oct. 30 search has been sent to a forensics lab. Marijuana possession charges could be pending, he said.
``Kids are learning in schools through DARE programs and health classes that drugs are no good for you and are illegal,'' Heflin said. ``The more we can educate kids against narcotics, the more we'll see them coming and reporting not only their parents, but other people, too.''
