CELEBRATIONS - ANNIVERSARIES

Black anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Lester Black, Sr., will celebrate their 60th anniversary today, November 24, 1996, at Highland Park United Methodist Church, hosted by their family.

The couple was married November 25, 1936 in Roanoke, Va. She's the former Marie E. Cummings.

Their children are Judy and Bill Griggs, A.L. Jr. and Carolyn Black, Barry and Betty Black, all of Roanoke; and Penny and Wayne Newell of St. Thomas, Ont. Canada. They have seven grandchildren and four great- grandchildren.

Mr. Black is retired from Norfolk & Western Railroad. They are members of Highland Park United Methodist Church.

Blankenship anniversary

Maurice W. and Fleda E. Blankenship celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Nov. 15, 1996. The celebration was held at home, hosted by friends and neighbor s. They were married on Nov. 15, 1946 in Roanoke and have been residents of Thoxton, Va. since May 11, 1985. Fleda is a homemaker. Maurice is retired from Trailways Bus Co. Fleda is the former Fleda E. Wheeling of Roanoke.

Jett anniversary

Weldon and Carolyn Jett will celebrate their 50th anniversary on November 28, 1996. Formerly of Hillsville, they reside in Moncks Corner, S. C.

Lester anniversary

Rodney and ``Jack'' (Georgia Parrish) Lester celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary, November 23, 1996. A reception hosted by their children, Janet and Bob Peterson of Waynesville, N.C., Harriet and Jimmy Williams of Blacksburg, B.J. and Barry Willard of Christiansburg, and grandsons, David and James Williams and Travis and John Willard, was held at Main Street Baptist Church, Christiansburg, Va. Rodney is retired from the Post Office and ``Jack'' continues to operate Lester Draperies from their home.

Ratcliff anniversary

James H. and Hazel McMahan Ratcliff celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on November 21, 1996. A dinner in their honor was hosted by their daughters, Darlene Johnson and Trisha Ratcliff. The Ratcliffs have seven children, ten grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

James and Hazel are natives of Blacksburg. James had 29 years of service with the government- 19 years were with the U.S. Postal Service. He also served in the 2nd Infantry Division in W.W. II.

Ruble anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. W. Earl Ruble are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 1996 with their children and grandchildren in Lynchburg. Their children are Nancy and Jack Perry and Richard and Pam Jones Ruble. They have six grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Mrs. Ruble is the former Juanita Webster.

Spence anniversary

Myriam Virginia Newman Spence and Arthur Dallas Spence Jr. were united in marriage on Sunday, November 24, 1946 by the Rev. HG Tiller at the Methodist Parsonage in Hillsville, VA.

Their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren wish not only to congratulate them but to thank them for the love, devotion and respect they have shown to each other and their family over the years.

Wilson anniversary

Charles and June Wilson of Marion, Va., celebrated their Golden Anniversary. Married on November 23, 1946, the Wilsons have 2 daughters,.
