CELEBRATIONS - ENGAGEMENTS

Bong-Fike

Miss Wonae Bong and John Herschel Fike announce their engagement, with plans to marry on December 28, 1996, at Germantown Brick Church of the Brethren in Franklin County.

Miss Bong is the daughter of Sung Soon Jung and the late Tae Guen Bong of Seoul, South Korea. She is a graduate of Korea University and is presently a doctoral candidate of VPI-SU in soil chemistry.

Mr. Fike is a son of Herschel and Shirley Fike of Rocky Mount, Virginia. He is a graduate of Wake Forest University. He received his Masters degree from VPI-SU and is currently pursuing a PhD from the University of Florida, Gainesville in dairy science.

Collier-Franklin

Heather Rae Collier and Kenneth Brian Franklin are engaged and planning to be married on December 14, 1996, at the War Memorial Chapel, Blacksburg. Heather is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.. Arlie Collier, Jr., Pound, Va. She graduated from Pound High School and from Virginia Tech. She is employed by Virginia Tech Foundation. Kenneth is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth B. Franklin, Pocahontas, Va. He graduated from Pocahontas High School and from Virginia Tech. He is employed by 84 Lumber Company.

Cook-Wood

The parents of Stephanie Anne Cook and Joseph Allen Wood are excited to announce the engagement of their children.

Stephanie is the daughter of Pamela E. Cook of Roanoke and John A. Cook, also of Roanoke. She is a 1995 graduate of Northside High School and is attending Virginia Western Community College. She is currently employed by Cracker Barrel.

Allen is the son of Tommy and Karen Wood of Vinton. He is a 1993 graduate of William Byrd High School and a 1995 graduate of Virginia Tech. He is currently employed by Wood's Service Center.

A September 27, 1997, wedding is planned at Thrasher Memorial United Methodist Church in Vinton.

Helton-Hurt

Mr. and Mrs. Richard F. Helton of Roanoke are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Amy Melissa, to Jamie Lerae Hurt.

Amy is pursuing a degree at Virginia Western Community College and is employed by Oncology and Hemotology Associates.

Jamie is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas D. Hurt, Jr. of Vinton. He is a graduate of Roanoke Valley Christian Schools and is employed by Fullmer Construction Company.

A February 1, 1997 wedding is planned.

James-Rakes

Kellie Renee James and Richard Charles Rakes are engaged and planning to be married on April 5, 1997, in Roanoke. Kellie is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles M. James of Roanoke. She graduated from Franklin County High School and from Roanoke College, Salem, Va. She is employed by Allstate. Richard is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Nelson Rakes of Rocky Mount. He graduated from Franklin County High School and is employed by Norfolk Southern.

Koenig-Mason

Miss Rebecca Anne Koenig and Mr. Douglas Anthony Mason are engaged and planning to be married in June 1997 in Ferrum, VA. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Car l J. Koenig of Richmond, VA. She graduated from, and is employed by Ferrum College.

He is the son of Cecil Mason and the late Rose Mary Mason of Rocky Mount, VA. He was graduated from Ferrum College. He is employed by First Union National Bank.

Scaggs-Witcher

Mr. and Mrs. Jerry R. Cupp, Sr. of Christiansburg proudly announce the engagement of their daughter, Terry Cupp Scaggs, to Rick Allen Witcher, both of Huntersville, North Carolina.

Terry is a Legal Assistant for the Corporate Lending Group of Smith Helms Mulliss & Moore, L.L.P. in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Rick is the son of Kathryn Witcher of Navarro Beach, Florida, and the late Noel Witcher of Indianapolis, Indiana. He is Service Manager of the Oil-Free Rental Operations of Ingersoll-Rand Company in Davidson, North Carolina.

A spring wedding is planned.

Stoots-Fleming

Kacy Renee Stoots and Kent Daniel Fleming are engaged and planning to be married on December 14, 1996 in Bristol, Va. She is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lanny R. Stoots of Bristol, Va. She graduated from Virginia High School and Clinch Valley College. He is a son of Mr. Carter Fleming of New Castle, Va., and the late Mrs. Judy Fleming. He graduated from North Cross School and Clinch Valley College, and is employed by Household Finance.

Taylor-Sowers

Cynthia Gale Taylor and Todd Everette Sowers are engaged and planning to be married. She is a daughter of Winona F. Taylor and the late Estle A. Taylor of Salem. She was graduated from Salem High School and received a Registered Nursing Degree from Virginia Western Community College. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. G. Everette Sowers of Roanoke. He was graduated from William Byrd High School and received a Bachelors of Administration Degree from Roanoke College. A December 28th, 1996 wedding is planned.

Willoughby-Wassell

Mr. Alfred D. Willoughby and Mrs. Teacy C. Willoughby of Roanoke, VA are very pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Stephanie Lorraine Willoughby, to Timothy Stewart Wassell of Vinton, VA, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carvel Wassell of Columbia, SC. A spring wedding is planned.
