A Jan. 27 preliminary hearing was set Monday in Radford for Chad Joseph LaRue, 26, who is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the shotgun slaying of Melissa Ann Dyal on Nov. 24. Dyal, 21, moved to Radford several months ago from Tampa, Fla., to live with LaRue, who is also from Florida. The case marks the first homicide in Radford in at least a decade. LaRue remained in the city jail Monday on a $45,000 bond.
