The Roanoke Valley Convention and Visitors Bureau has mailed its first newsletter, aimed at operators of hotels, restaurants and attractions.
Mountain Views, to be published four times a year, went to 700 business and community representatives, said Catherine Fox, acting executive director. Though that is several times the organization's membership of 115, the additional copies are intended to promote the taxpayer-supported bureau and the industry it represents.
The newsletter says the visitor bureau on the City Market received nearly 4,600 visitors in October, and nearly 350 people called for information. Overall, travelers spent $312million in the Roanoke Valley last year, according to Virginia Tourism Corp. data for Roanoke, Salem, Roanoke County and Botetourt County.
Also, the bureau said a replacement for former executive director Martha Mackey is to be announced about the middle of this month.
