Phillip Klaus scored 25 points Wednesday night to lead Blacksburg to a 66-44 victory over Carroll County in a non-district matchup in Hillsville.
The Indians (1-1) outscored the Cavaliers 30-5 in the second quarter behind Scott Aden, who came off the bench to hit a trio of 3-point goals. Aden scored 12 points in the game.
Earl Johnson and Jerry Holdaway scored eight points each to lead the Cavaliers (1-1).
Floyd County 92, Fieldale-Collinsville 62: Travis Cantrell and Jason Dalton each scored 18 of their 22 points in the first half as the Buffaloes opened their season with a convincing victory over the Cavaliers (1-1) in a non-district game in Floyd.
Dalton had seven assists and Cantrell came up with six steals. Derek Saunders scored 14 points and Adam Harris added 11 for Floyd County.
Lamont Perkins led Fieldale-Collinsville with 15 points and Joey Taylor added 11.
Narrows 79, Auburn 67: Joe Shipbaugh scored 29 points to lead the Green
Wave (2-0) to a non-district victory over the Eagles (0-2) in Narrows.
The Green Wave trailed by two points at halftime, but went on an 8-0 run to start the second half and never trailed again. Shipbaugh scored 11 points in the third quarter to spark the Green Wave. Jason Mullins and Dalton Smith scored 17 and 16 points respectively. Heath Fleeman pulled down 12 rebounds.
Adam Londay led the Eagles with 24 points
Patrick County 68, Carlisle 60: Corey Williams scored a game-high 33 points to lead the Cougars (2-0) to a non-district victory over the Chiefs (1-2) in Stuart.
The Chiefs were led by Chad Martin and Marty Stanley, who scored 21 and 15 points respectively.
Magna Vista 86, Tunstall 79: Markus Harriston scored 27 points to lead the Warriors (1-0) to a non-district victory over the Trojans (0-2) in Ridgeway.
Landa Martin scored 17 points for the Warriors. Lashan Adkins led the Trojans with 24 points and Lorenzo Preston had 14.
Parry McCluer 46, Riverheads 29: The Fighting Blues went on a 15-0 run to start the game and rolled to victory in their season opener in Buena Vista. David Coleman scored 10 points for Parry McCluer.
Tuesday's games
Buffalo Gap 80, Covington 76: Jeff Jennings scored a game-high 22 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as the Bison picked up a season-opening non-district victory over the Cougars in Swoope.
Buffalo Gap trailed 40-32 at halftime, but came out of the locker room to outscore the Cougars 26-13 in the third quarter. Marc Craun scored 17 and Brian Tutwiler had 10 points for the Bison.
Erwin Twitty led Covington with 18 points. Tracy Walker added 14.
E.C. Glass 71, Franklin County 39: Brian Horseley scored a game-high 17 points as the Hilltoppers pulled away from the Eagles in a non-district opener at Lynchburg.
Bobby Basham led Franklin County with 14 points.
Fieldale-Collinsville 69, Chatam 62: Marco Taylor scored 17 points as Fieldale-Collinsville opened the season with a non-district victory over Chatham in Collinsville.
F-C owned a 37-24 halftime lead, but Chatam battled back in the second half. Joey Taylor added 15 points for F-C, Lamont Perkins contributed 12 and Phillip Hairston had 10.
Travis Hairston led Chatam with 16 points.
Bassett 53, Staunton River 44: Keith Harvey scored a game-high 26 points to lead the Bengals to a non-district victory over the Golden Eagles in Moneta in the opener for both teams.
Harvey hit all 10 of his free-throw attempts in the fourth quarter to hold off Staunton River.
Steve Martin scored 14 and Chris Martin added 12 points for the Golden Eagles.
Carroll County 54, Galax 48: Scott Goins scored 12 points as the Cavaliers got a season-opening non-district victory over the Maroon Tide in Hillsville.
Carroll County hit eight of 12 free-throw attempts in the fourth quarter to secure the victory. The Cavaliers trailed 44-41 after three quarters, but held Galax to four points in the fourth quarter. Earl Johnson scored 11 points for the hosts.
Mac Garner led the Maroon Tide with 17 points.
Laurel Park 68, Gretna 45: Jeff Slade led all scorers with 18 points as the Lancers won a non-district opener in Gretna.
Eric Jones added 15 points and Tony Carter 12. Darrio Scott led Gretna with 11.
William Fleming 55, Halifax County 48: The Colonels were extended to overtime before holding off the Comets in their season opener. Charles Burnette led a balanced attack with 13 points for the Colonels. Brad Dunleavy added 10. Halifax County was paced Savanagh Bailey with 18 points and Ben Rand with 12. Torrance Dunkley chipped in
Lord Botetourt 56, Glenvar 46: Michael Yates scored 12 of his game-high 23 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Cavaliers (1-0) to a non-district victory over the Highlanders (0-1) on Glenvar's home floor.
The Cavaliers trailed 37-36 after three quarters, but outscored the Highlanders 20-9 in the fourth quarter. The Cavaliers shot 55 percent from the field in the game. Jason Hunt contributed 11 points.
Josh Williamson scored 13 points to lead the Highlanders. Seth Noonkester added 12 points and 18 rebounds.
