BEST IN THE LEAGUE honors are bestowed on Virginia Tech quarterback Jim Druckenmiller and coach Frank Beamer
Quarterback Jim Druckenmiller, who has guided Virginia Tech to 20 victories in its past 21 games, Wednesday was named co-offensive player of the year in the Big East Football Conference.
Frank Beamer, who guided the Hokie to the first 10-victory regular season in school history and a share of the Big East championship, was named coach of the year.
Druckenmiller, a senior from Northampton, Pa., shared the offensive honor with Syracuse quarterback Donovan McNabb. West Virginia sack specialist Canute Curtis was named defensive player of the year.
Four Hokies join Druckenmiller on the first-team offense. They are senior center Billy Conaty, tight end Bryan Jennings, running back Ken Oxendine and freshman kicker Shayne Graham (Pulaski County).
Lineman Cornell Brown was the lone Tech player named to the first-team defense.
Tech linemen Jay Hagood and T.J. Washington were named to the second-team offense, and linebackers Myron Newsome and Brandon Semones (Glenvar), cornerback Antonio Banks and safety Torrian Gray earned second-team honors on defense.
