SHE HONORS `GOOD SCOUT' WITH DONATION

When Emily Paine Brady asked her boyfriend Daryel Smith what he wanted for Christmas, he told her to take whatever amount she was going to spend on him and give it to the needy.

So she thought about it and decided to donate to the Good Neighbors Fund in honor of a ``Good Scout.''

She said Smith, an assistant Scoutmaster with Boy Scout Troop 2 in Roanoke, is a very giving person who deserves to be recognized.

``He's one of the quiet, good people of the Roanoke Valley,'' she said. ``He's very low-profile, but he's always there when you need him.''

Smith tends to his parents and his neighbors, and is always willing to give extra time to the boys in his Scout troop. He even uses his vacation to take the troop to summer camp every year.

``Daryel's trustworthy, and he's loyal and helpful,'' Brady said. ``To me, he just really exemplifies the Scouting ideals.''

``He's always looking out for others.''
