ANDERSON, Jean Allen, 72, of Lynchburg, died Thursday, December 5, 1996 in the Lynchburg General Hospital. She was born on January 28, 1924 in Rural Retreat, the daughter of the late William and Stella Grubb Allen. She was a member of the Fairview United Methodist Church in Lynchburg and the American Legion Auxilliary. She was the widow of the late Frank M. Anderson Jr. and is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Brinda Anderson; two daughters and son-in-law, Jan and Tony Johnson and Sheri L. Anderson all of Lynchburg; two grandsons, Jarod and Jason Johnson; a stepgrandson, David Phelps; a stepgreat-granddaughter, Taylor Phelps; two brothers, Robert Con Allen of Brooklyn, Wis., Fred Allen, Joppa, Md.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, December 9, 1996 at the Lindsey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Mucha officiating. Interment will follow in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens in Rural Retreat. The family requestst that those who prefer, may make memorials to the Rural Retreat United Methodist Church. BOHON, Willard Webster, 74, of Daugherty Road, Salem, passed away Friday, December 6, 1996, in a Salem hospital after a long struggle with cancer. Mr. Bohon served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired after 25 years in service from the G.E. Salem Plant. An avid bowler, he was active with The Roanoke Bowlers Association and The Senior Citizens League at All Star Lanes. He was an active member and Trustee of Temple Baptist Church, Salem. A devoted husband and father, he is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marie Hambrick Bohon; a daughter and her husband, Donna and Ralph Knoebel of Salem; two grandchildren, Ross and Kelley Knoebel, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, and six sisters. His family is most appreciative of the many prayers and kind acts by Temple Baptist Church, The Senior Bowlers and the Staff at the V.A. Regional Medical Center. Memorials may be made to Temple Baptist Church for the Building Fund. Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday, December 9, 1996, from Oakey's North Chapel. The Rev. Jimmy Jennings, his pastor, and the Rev. David Wickline will officiate. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. BOWER, James Marvin, 86, of Riner, went home to be with his Lord on Friday morning, December 6, 1996, at his residence. A loving husband, father and grandfather who loved life and his family, he made the world a better place. He was a member of Christiansburg Pentecostal Holiness Church and was a finishing carpenter. The son of the Late Dora and Mose Bower, he also was preceded in death by a brother, Roncervert. He was loved by everyone and will be missed by his wife, Mary Underwood Bower; daughters and sons-in-law, Betty Royal of Lynchburg, Carolyn and Clyde Conner of Riner, Deborah and David Proffitt of Amherst, Diane and Tony Conner of Shawsville, Judy and Keith Duncan of Christiansburg, and Lisa and Ted Blevins of Radford; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Brenda Bower, and Gary and Connie Bower of Riner; two brothers, Dorsey Junior Bower of Blacksburg and Paul Bower of Christiansburg; two sisters, Ruth Ellis and Reba Grimes of Roanoke; 24 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, December 8, at Christiansburg Pentecostal Holiness Church, conducted by the Rev. Richard Kingrea and the Rev. Buford Linkous, with burial in St. Matthew Church Cemetery. BULBIN, Frederick Lewis, 76, of Roanoke, and formerly of Richelieu Avenue, died Friday, December 6, 1996 at the Virginia Veterans Care Center. He was a 1937 graduate of Miami Senior High School (Miami, Fla.) and a 1942 graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology, with a Chemical Engineering Degree. Mr. Bulbin was the retired president of Samuel Spigel, past President of the Rotary Club of Roanoke, and a Paul Harris Fellow. He was past President and Trustee of Temple Emanuel (where he taught religious school for over 26 years), and a member of the Brotherhood. Mr. Bulbin was a former member of the Board of the Mid Atlantic Region of the Union of the American Hebrew Congregation. He was Past Chairman of the Personnel & Employment Practices Commission for the City of Roanoke. Mr. Bulbin received the National Conference of Christian and Jews Award, 1977 and was past Vice President of the Jaycees, and past President of Toastmasters. He as an Honorary Board Member and past Vice President of the American Cancer Society, and was awarded Boss of the Year by the Shenandoah Chapter of The American Business Women Association. Mr. Bulbin was a for mer member and Treasurer of the Board of Directors of Downtown Roanoke, Inc., a past member of the Board of Directors of the Roanoke Merchants Association, a past Board of Director and Secretary/Treasurer of the Better Business Bureau, past chairman of the Advisory Board of Salvation Army, and a member of the Community Relations Committee from 1971 to 1980. Mr. Bulbin was one of the original founders of the Roanoke Broadway Theatre League, was involved in the Miss Virginia Pageant, a former Head of Judges for the Virginia Junior Miss Pageant, and was Father of the Year for Civic Affairs in 1976. He was predeceased by his wife, Maxine Spigel Bulbin. Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Susan A. Bulbin and Robert G. Lingblom, Roanoke; his son, Samuel S. Bulbin; a number of grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Stanley and Barbara Bulbin; and a sister-in-law, Harriett Bublin, all of Miami, Fla. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday from Temple Emanuel conducted by Rabbi Kathy Cohen. Interment will follow in Temple Emanuel Cemetery. Friends may call after 9 a.m. Monday at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Temple Emanuel (1163 Persinger Road, S.W., Roanoke, Va. 24015).
BUSTON, Lucy Craig Ward, 85, of Tazewell, died Saturday, December 7, 1996, at her home. Born on February 17, 1911, in Tazewell, she was a daughter of the late Robert Jefferson and Lucy Craig Wilson Ward. She was a member of Tazewell Presbyterian Church. Prior to her declining health, Mrs. Buston also had been active in the Tazewell Community Hospital Auxiliary and the Tazewell Garden Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry L. Buston Jr. Survivors include three daughters, Lucy Hunter and her husband Louis of Richlands, Nancy Downs and her husband Eugene of Fincastle, and Sarah Lineberry and her husband Ben of Tazewell; one son, Harry L. Buston III and his wife Joan of Bluefield, W.Va.; one sister, Nancy Ward of Tazewell; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, December 9, 1996, in Maplewood Cemetery, Tazewell, with the Rev. Charles E. Nash and Dr. James H. Grant officiating. CAREY, Henry Hartwell, of Bedford, went home to glory Friday, December 6, 1996. He was born June 30, 1922 and is survived by his wife, Cameria C. Carey; two daughters, Jacquetta M. Cooper and D. Mildred Walker; grandchildren, Camille D. Steepleton, Anna M. Adams, Tiana R. Cooper, Lawrence E. Cooper, Jackson V. Steepleton Jr., Darius Q. Adams; one sister, Virgie C. DEAN, Charlie Franklin Henry Sr., 54, of Vinton, died Friday, December 6, 1996, in a Salem hospital. He was employed with the Roanoke Gas Company. He was a loving husband, father and Pa Pa. He is survived by his wife, Linda Ann Dean; two sons and daughter-in-law, Robert Allen and Dreama Dean of Stewartsville, Charlie Franklin Dean Jr. and girlfriend, Melody Taylor, of Vinton; four daughters, Lisa A. Shell and husband, David of Vinton, Linda Sue Nelson and husband, Kevin of Moneta, Elizabeth K. GARST, Benjamin William, 58, of Daleville, passed away Friday, December 6, 1996. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Ann Garst; one daughter, Kelsie D. Garst, and one son, Evan W. Garst, all of Daleville; his mother-in-law, Phyllis English of Roanoke, and two sisters and three brothers-in-law, Emma Lou and Tom Griffin of Ruidoso, N.M., Judy and John Tweel of Springfield, and Joe Styne Williamson Sr. of Buchanan. Funeral services will be held Monday, Decem ber 9, 1996, at 2 p.m., at the Daleville Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Daniel Barnum-Steggerda officiating. HALL, Woodrow Forest, 71, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, December 6, 1996, in a Roanoke hospital. He was a retired cement finisher. HUMPHREY, Robert, (``Bob""), 79, of Corinne, West Virginia, died Thursday, December 5, 1996 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke, Va. He was born in Page, West Virginia on December 14, 1916 and was the son of the late Elbert and Mary Young Humphrey. A graduate of Mullens High School, he played football. He attended Concord College and was a retired employee of the Virginian Railroad and the Norfolk and Western Railroad. He was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II where he was stationed in India. He was a member of the American Legion and the United Transportation Union. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Lefler Humphrey; a son, Robert ``Rocky"" Humphrey; two brothers, Elbert and William Humphrey; two sisters, Frances Humphrey Howell and Jessee Humphrey McGraw. Surviving are his daughters, Bobbie H. Ingle, Roanoke, Va. and Penny H. Rinehart; son-in-law, David Rinehart, Princeton, Indiana; grandchildren, Ashley Ingle, Kimberly, Laura, Jessica, and Michael Rinehart; a sister, Louise Humphrey Price of Burke, Va.; and a friend and companion, Agnes Grayson of Princeton, W. Va. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, December 8 at Tankersley Funeral Home in Mullens, West Virginia. JONES, Samuel Aubrey, of 30th St. Dr., N.E., Hickory, N.C., formerly of Roanoke, Va. died Friday, December 6, 1996 in Brian Center, Viewmont. He was born January 17, 1928 in Roanoke, Va. to Lala P. Jones and the late Claude F. Jones. Mr. Jones was a member of Belmont Baptist Church, Roanoke, Va. and was a retired District Sales Manager with Pet Dairy. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II and a Mason. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a son, Gary W. Jones; two brothers, Elvin C. Jones and Wilford, F. Jones who were of Roanoke, Va. In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife, Margaret Wade Jones, Hickory, N.C.; four sons, Kenneth A. Jones, Chesapeake, Va., Samuel E. KILIAN, Elsie Mae, 86, of Roanoke, died Saturday, December 7, 1996. She was the widow of John R. (``Bob"") Kilian. She was a member of Woodlawn United Methodist Church and a former member of Raleigh Court United Methodist Church. She was a former employee of Miller & Rhoads and Heironimus. Mrs. Kilian was past Worthy Matron of Carrie Lee Chapter #108 OES. She was charter member of the Blue Ridge Chrysanthemum Society and a member of the Roanoke Rose Society. Mrs. Kilian was a former member of ROKEVA, a past President of the Grandin Court Garden Club and a member of the Democratic Women's Club. She was a member of NARFE and the PBX Operators Club. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, William J. (``Bill"") Sr. and Barbara R. Kilian; grandchildren William J. (``Jim"") Jr. and Sherri Kilian, and Margaret E. (``Margee"") and Douglas C. Durham, all of Roanoke; three great-grandchildren, Ben and Heather Durham, and BreAnne Bratcher, and sisters-in law, Margaret Kilian of Richmond, Annette Kilian of Alexandria and Evelyn Smith of Charlotte, N.C. LINEBERRY, Garland Ray, 43, of Buena Vista, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 7, 1996, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville . Born on February 23, 1953, in Buena Vista, he was a son of Lewis G. and Elva Alderman Lineberry of Buena Vista. He was a member of Buena Vista Pentecostal Holiness Church. Surviving with his parents are his brothers and sisters and their spouses, Ronald G. and Phyllis Lineberry of Lexington, Darrell L. and Dee Lineberry of Natural Bridge, David L. and Linda Lineberry of Newport News, Sharon G. and Ross Bleech, and Sandra L. and David Knick of Buena Vista; seven nephews, three nieces, and two great-nieces. Gabby was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force, a member of the Republican National Committee and a member of American Legion Post #93.
