Marco Taylor and Phillip Hairston combined for 21 points Saturday in the second half as Fieldale-Collinsville defeated Franklin County 61-52 in the third-place game of the Heritage Tip-Off Tournament at Lynchburg.
Taylor and Hairston each were held to single field goals in the first half as Group AA Fieldale-Collinsville (1-1) held a 26-24 lead over Group AAA Franklin County (0-3). Taylor finished with 17 points as the Cavaliers pulled away in the fourth.
Hairston added 13 points and Joey Taylor scored 12. Franklin County's Bobby Basham scored 18 and Jeremy Adkins and Kermit Noel added 10.
William Fleming JV 61, Covington Boys Home 60: The Colonels' junior varsity rallied from a 12-point deficit in the fourth quarter to nip the Indians at Covington.
Girls
Pulaski County 77, Albemarle 66: Katrina Williams scored 16 of her 27 points in the second half as the Cougars outscored the Patriots 47-31 after halftime to score a non-district win in Dublin.
Robin Bower scored 10 of her 17 points and Lisa Skeens nine of her 13 in the second half for Pulaski County (1-0).
Angel Johnson scored 19 points, Ashby Johnson 15 and Cindy Frazier 11 for Albemarle (1-1).
Friday's games
HERITAGE TIPOFF: Timesland's two entries didn't fare well in the tournament's opening round as host Heritage dumped Fieldale-Collinsville 65-53 while Franklin County couldn't hit a free throw in the final quarter as Halifax County pulled away for a 60-44 victory at Lynchburg.
The Eagles (0-2) trailed by only five points after three quarters, but went 1-of-8 from the line in the final period. Robbie Basham led Franklin County with 15 while Torrance Dunkley, with 16, was tops for Halifax County (1-1).
Heritage (1-0) opened its season as Kevin Lambert hit 21 points. Fieldale-Collinsville (1-2) was paced by Phillip Hairston with 20.
Bassett 65, Dan River 57: Chauncey Norman scored 21 points and Keith Harvey added 10 as Bassett (2-0) rolled to a non-district victory in Ringgold. Dan River's Lloyd Tilman had a game-high 28 points.
