Melinda K. Reeder has been promoted in the U.S. Air Force to the rank of staff sergeant. Reeder is a paralegal with the 3rd Wing Judge Advocate's Office, Elmendorf Air Force Base, Anchorage, Alaska. She graduated from Radford High School in 1988. She is the daughter of Judith Lawrence of Blacksburg and Gary Mallery of Radford.

Army Reserve Pfc. Alexander L. Herren graduated from the cargo specialist course at Fort Eustis, Newport News. Herren is the son of Carol Viall of Floyd.

Navy Chief Petty Officer Robert B. White has reported for duty at Naval Nuclear Power Training Command, Orlando, Fla. White graduated from Blacksburg High School in 1978 and received a bachelor's degree from the State University of New York, Albany, in 1996. He is the son of John and Patsy White of Blacksburg.
