EMBROIDEER HAS HER WORK IN WHITE HOUSE

Minnie LaRue, an 84-year-old member of the Embroidery Guild of America, got to see one of her pieces hanging in the White House after a presidential invitation to tour the presidential home this month,

LaRue, a long-time member of the Embroidery Guild of America, stays busy embroidering, cross-stitching and doing cloth artwork needle-point when she is not volunteering her time in the Dietary Department of Abingdon's Johnston Memorial Hospital. She has been a hospital volunteer for nearly 15 years.

Her piece for the White House was a stocking with a theme from "The Nutcracker," a favorite of the president's daughter, Chelsea Clinton.

The guild asked hundreds of its members to create ornaments for this year's White House Christmas decor. LaRue was recovering from eye surgery when she got the request. Using a magnifying glass for the finer designs, she created a stocking which now hangs in the Blue Room of the White House.
