Christmas Eve is the night when many folks who haven't made it to church during the year look for a seat in the pew at a local congregation.
This year, you can choose among children's pageants, candlelight services, and the popular festival of lessons and carols. Among the local services are:
*Christ Episcopal Church, Church and Jackson streets, Blacksburg. 3 p.m., continuation of a three-part pageant with scenes from the birth of Jesus. Also at 8 p.m., Festival Holy Eucharist Rite I. At 11 p.m., Festival Holy Eucharist Rite II.
*Blacksburg United Methodist Church, 111 Church St., 4-7 p.m., outdoor live Nativity at Lee and Penn streets. At 5 p.m., family Christmas Eve service. At 8 p.m., communion and candlelight service.
*Christ Episcopal Church, Wenonah and Tazewell streets, Pearisburg. Communion service at 5 p.m.
*Luther Memorial Evangelical Lutheran Church, Prices Fork and Toms Creek roads, Blacksburg. At 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., candlelight and communion services.
*Cambria Baptist Church, 1310 Cambria St., Christiansburg, 5 p.m. candlelight service.
*Blacksburg Presbyterian Church, Church and Eakin streets, 5 p.m., intergenerational service. Organ music begins at 10:30 p.m. with worship service at 11 p.m.
*Holy Spirit Catholic Church will celebrate Mass at 5:15 p.m. at Our Saviour Lutheran Church, 1845 Cambria St., Christiansburg.
*St. Mary's Catholic Church, 706 Harding Ave., Blacksburg. There will be a young people's Mass at 6 p.m. and a midnight Mass.
*Community Christian Church, Virginia 682, Newbern, from 7-8 p.m., live Nativity scene Dec. 24 and Dec. 25.
*Glade Baptist Church, 1600 Glade Road, Blacksburg, a 7 p.m. candlelight communion service.
*Good Shepherd Baptist Church, 155 Dunlap Dr., Christiansburg, a 7 p.m., candlelight, carols and communion service.
*Our Saviour Lutheran Church, 1845 Cambria St., Christiansburg at 7 p.m., children's service with carols and communion. At 11 p.m., Holy Night service.
*Central United Methodist Church, 8th and Wadsworth streets, Radford. At 7 p.m. and 10:45 p.m., carols, candlelighting, and communion.
*Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the New River Valley, 1301 Gladewood Dr., Blacksburg. At 7 p.m., intergenerational service of music and a Moravian Love Feast.
*Grove United Methodist Church, Tyler Avenue, Radford. At 7:30 p.m., communion by candlelight.
*Northside Presbyterian Church, 1017 Progress St., Blacksburg. A 7:30 p.m. candlelight service.
*St. Francis Anglican Church, Wilson and Progress streets, Blacksburg. An 8 p.m. service of Holy Communion.
*First Christian Church, 400 Tyler Ave., Radford. At 8 p.m., candlelight, carols, communion and the completion of the manger scene.
*Christ Lutheran Church, Second and Harvey streets, Radford. At 8 p.m., candlelight communion service.
*Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 5th Street, Pulaski. At 10 p.m., choral prelude; 10:30 p.m., candlelight communion service.
*St. Thomas Episcopal Church, East Main and Roanoke streets, Christiansburg. At 10:30 p.m., festival of lessons and carols and Holy Eucharist.
*Christ Episcopal Church, 144 North Washington Ave., Pulaski. Musical program at 10:30 p.m. and Holy Eucharist at 11 p.m.
*Haven's Chapel United Methodist Church, Virginia 610, Check. Worship service at 11 p.m.
*Parrott United Methodist Church, located beside the Parrott fire station on Church Hill Road. An 11 p.m. community candlelight service.
