Blacksburg company names 4 to board|
BLACKSBURG - Internet Business Technologies, a Blacksburg Internet company, has named four area people to its board of directors. The new board members include:
Richard Bohlin, who founded Wheat First Butcher Singer's Blacksburg office in 1975 and is a senior vice president for the firm. He is a member of the Industrial Development Authority for Montgomery County and is on the Warm Hearth Village Board of Trustees.
Douglas Covington, president of Radford University. Previously, he was chancellor of Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina, president of Alabama A&M University and president of Cheney University in Pennsylvania.
Joseph T. Jones, a real estate broker and owner of Raines Real Estate in Blacksburg. He will be president of the New River Valley Board of Realtors in 1997.
Brian H. Smith, who is with the Blacksburg office of Edward Jones. He is a member of the Board of Trustees for Warm Hearth Village, and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Greater Blacksburg Chamber of Commerce.
Strauss new president of Radford chamber
RADFORD - Ervin Strauss, general manager of American Cable Entertainment, has been elected president for 1997 of the Radford Chamber of Commerce.
President-elect is Bruce Blaylock, dean of the College of Business and Economics at Radford University. The treasurer will be Harriet Price of Price Williams Real Estate.
Four new members of the board of directors are: Henry M. "Mac" Harvey, a consultant; Kathryn Jordan, president of Employment Counseling Services; Richard Robertson, a retired physician; and Nick Vlahakis, vice president and general manager of Alliant Tech Systems.
Two new directors-at-large are Beatrice Covington, wife of Radford University President Douglas Covington, and Ralph Stuart, vice president and managing officer of Blue Ridge Bank.
Area banks name new branch managers
CHRISTIANSBURG - Two area banks have announced new branch managers.
John Phillips is the new manager of First National Bank's Blacksburg office. A commercial loan officer at the bank since 1993, Phillips is a graduate of Virginia Military Institute. He recently earned a master's degree in business from Virginia Tech.
He is a captain in the Army Reserve and a member of Blacksburg Presbyterian Church. He and his wife and son live in Blacksburg.
Chris Shockley is the new manager of First Union's Blacksburg branch. He earned a bachelor's degree in managerial economics from Radford University in 1992 and completed First Union's manager associate's program in 1993. He was manager of the bank's Williamson Road Branch in Roanoke.
The new manager of First Union's Marketplace office is John Stone. He graduated from Hampden-Sydney College in 1994 with undergraduate degrees in economics and psychology. He joined First Union in 1994, and is a member of the Marine Corps Reserve and of the Christiansburg-Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce.
