Gov. George Allen has set a special election for Jan. 14 to fill the House of Delegates seat vacated when Roscoe Reynolds, a Henry County Democrat, was elected to the state Senate.
Democrat Barnie Day, a Patrick County supervisor, and Republican Phil Plaster, a former Patrick County supervisor, will run for the seat, which includes parts of Carroll, Henry, Patrick and Pittsylvania counties. The race will seat the first Patrick County representative in the General Assembly since Mary Sue Terry left the House to run for attorney general in 1985 and Reynolds was elected to her seat.
Reynolds defeated Del. Allen Dudley, R-Rocky Mount, in a Dec. 17 special election to fill the state Senate seat of 5th District U.S. Rep.-elect Virgil Goode.
