Legionnaires' figures revised
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released the official, preliminary results from last fall's Legionnaires' disease outbreak Thursday.
The CDC's report supported the New River Health District's study that named a display hot tub in the Christiansburg Lowe's home-improvement store as the source of the outbreak. The report also stated that seven new cases were confirmed, bringing the outbreak's total to 23, including two deaths. For details, see today's Virginia section.
Overtime and call backs at the arsenal
Company and union officials at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant have agreed to a solution to a recent spate of overtime work at the arsenal. Starting today, qualified workers from other plant locations will be allowed to volunteer for overtime needs in the affected lines. The overtime problems come even though Alliant Techsystems Inc. has called back or hired about 75 people in recent months in the chemical and propellant production lines. For details, see today's Virginia section.
