Elected officials must care for records

It is the responsibility of elected officials to maintain buildings and records. The elected officials are the custodians of these public materials. I'm very distressed to hear of the damage done to [Giles County record] books. I live in Ohio, and I had planned on visiting to do research.

Will I be able to view these books? I work at a library, and I understand the importance of research materials. Why are the books remaining in the vault in the Giles County Courthouse if they know further water damage is a possibility? I don't think placing plastic over them is a solution. I hope that the county takes

better care of their courthouse in the future so that this does not happen again.
