BATH COUNTY TOO MUCH FOR JAMES RIVER

Bath County broke open a close game with a strong second half Saturday to beat James River 55-37 and notch a Pioneer District victory in Hot Springs.

Adam Grist had 15 of his game-high 23 points in the second half when Bath County (9-5, 3-1) outscored the Knights 37-18.

Travis McGlothlin added 12 points and eight rebounds for the Chargers, who earned their fourth straight victory.

James River (5-10, 1-4) led 30-28 late in the third quarter when the Chargers went on an 11-0 spurt to take control.

Travis Blankenship led James River with 12 points and Quincy Springs added 10.

Liberty 82, Franklin County 71: The Minutemen won for the third time this week as the state's top-ranked Group AA team used 3-pointers and free throws to defeat the Eagles in a non-district game in Rocky Mount.

Liberty (15-1) hit seven 3-pointers in the game and was 19-of-23 from the charity stripe. The Minutemen did most of their damage in the first three quarters and took a 63-48 lead into the final eight minutes.

Cheyney Preston scored 19 points and Raymond Arrington added 18 for Liberty.

Henry Eggleston and Bobby Basham each scored 16 points to lead Franklin County (4-14).
