No one was hurt Monday morning after a flue fire spread to the upstairs bedroom of an Alum Spring Road home.
Pulaski Fire Chief Jeff Hall said Walden D. Breedlove reported the fire about 6:45 a.m. By 6:56, firefighters from Pulaski and Dublin had knocked down the flames, Hall said.
The 80-year-old home had a wood stove installed. Creosote tends to build up quickly in chimneys from wood stoves and can catch fire as it did in this case, Hall said. He said he generally does not recommend using a wood stove on an older chimney unless the chimney is lined.
The Breedlove home's chimney was not lined and the fire spread to interior walls destroying everything in an upstairs bedroom. The damage was estimated at $12,000, he said.
