Beginning this year, Virginia public schools will assess student achievement and ability in a new way. The Montgomery County school system and the County Council of PTAs are sponsoring a forum Thursday night to learn about new assessments that will compare students to others in the country and the state.
Shelley Loving-Ryder from the Virginia Department of Education and Virginia Tech professor Lawrence Cross will present information about the tests and the new Standards of Learning being implemented by the state. The meeting will be Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Christiansburg headquarters of the Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library, 125 Sheltman St., beside Christiansburg Middle School.
