VMI has signed two All-Timesland football players to letters of intent and may be back for more.
The Keydets announced a 10-man class Thursday that should grow in the coming weeks. VMI is holding a recruiting weekend starting Friday and probably will hold one next weekend, too.
Included among the 10 players already in the fold are two 1996 All-Timesland selections, Salem High School linebacker Jeff Akers and Pulaski County High School offensive tackle Bryan Dalton. (Complete VMI list in Scoreboard.) Both players were recruited by VMI assistant coach Kevin Sherman, who has added recruiting coordinator to his list of duties since new head coach Ted Cain arrived in January.
Sherman is a Radford High School and Ferrum College alumnus.
Akers, a 6-foot-2, 220-pound linebacker, made first-team All-Group AA and was Timesland's defensive player of the year.
Dalton was a second-team All-Group AAA selection and, at 6-2, 300 pounds, is VMI's heaviest recruit.
