Upcoming:
* The Montgomery County Board of Supervisors will meet at 7 p.m. Monday on the third floor of the Montgomery County Courthouse, Franklin and Main streets in downtown Christiansburg. Topics include a joint public hearing with the town of Christiansburg on a proposal to adjust the town's corporate limits to include about 32 acres in the Christiansburg Industrial Park off Roanoke Street. The change is seen as a way to "better promote the orderly development of the industrial park," according to a proposed resolution. As part of the negotiations for the boundary change, the town has agreed to expand the Merrimac-Midway water service area to assist in the development of the Merrimac and Price Mountain communities.
The supervisors also will meet in executive session on several matters, including deciding how to proceed in its search to replace retiring County Administrator Betty Thomas now that eight semifinalists have been interviewed. Other matters to be discussed in closed session are a prospective business or industry, proposed sites for a new Christiansburg Middle School, and acquiring or using land at the Falling Branch Industrial Park.
* Radford City Council may approve a $2.5 million addition and renovation to the Municipal Building, when it reviews the plan at its regularly scheduled meeting, at 7:30 p.m. Monday at 619 Second St. Also on the agenda are: expansion of the regional jail authority; establishment of benchmarks for central business district improvements; specifications for a new license tax for persons engaged in vending wares at festivals, celebrations and parades; and consideration of alternative sources of electric supply, to lower costs.
* The Pulaski County Electoral Board received 112 applications for the position of voting registrar and will meet in closed session at 10 a.m. Monday to consider them. The first step will be to choose the ones that the board will interview in later sessions. The post was left vacant by the dismissal of Phyllis Hanks last October.
