PLIERS FAIL AS ROBBERY TOOL

A teen-ager wearing a stocking cap tried to rob a Roanoke convenience store Thursday.

Police said the teen-ager walked behind the counter at Sparky's at 322 Boulevard S.W. about 10 p.m. He told the clerk to give him money or be shot, then pulled a pair of needle-nose pliers from his pocket.

The clerk chased the teen-ager from the store. No money was taken.
