ALLEY, Garland Junior, 73, of Wytheville, died Friday, February 7, 1997, at Lewis-Gale Hospital in Salem. He was born in Carroll County, a son of the late Thomas and Rosa Alley, and also was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Walter (``T. W."") Alley. He served as a Staff Sergeant in World War II, and was retired from construction and coal field mining. He is survived by his wife, Laura Neese Alley of the home; three grandchildren, Staci Alley-Ash of Hampton, Vic, Australia, Capt. Todd C. Alley of Fort Bragg, N.C., and Cadet Jason C. Alley of Citadel Station, Charleston, S.C.; a daughter-in-law, Fredricka Alley of Clover, S.C.; two sisters, Fannie Hudson of Austinville and Geneva Poston of Wytheville; one brother, Frank Alley of Austinville; several nieces and nephews, and one special great-nephew, Phillip Arnold Jr. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, February 10, 1997, at the Barnett Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Walter Wood officiating. Interment will follow in West End Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Barnett Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, or at the residence at any time. Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville is in charge of the arrangements.

BONDS, Jessie Mae, 80, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, February 8, 1997. She served during World War II in the U.S. Navy WAVES. A retiree from General Electric Company in Salem after 25 years of service, she was a member of Huntington Court United Methodist Church for over 30 years and later attended Richfield Nursing Home Chapel. Jessie was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Bonds. Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Jane B. and James S. McCoy, and Brenda and Chuck F. Rowell Jr., and grandchildren, Karen, who is currently serving in the U.S. Navy, and Kristin Rowell, and Kelsey and Keelan McCoy. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, February 10, 1997, from the chapel of John M. Oakey and Son in Salem, with the Rev. Tom Clay officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. CASSELL, Rose Powell, 90, formerly of Norfolk, died Friday, February 7, 1997. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Calvin Cassell. Surviving are her daughter, Bruce C. Lunsford and son-in-law, Read A. Lunsford, Roanoke; two grandchildren, Caroline P. Ellett, Colorado, Watson H. Ellett, III, New York. Arrangements by Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.

DALLAS, Elmer Harry, (``Pete""), 63, of Danville, died Thursday, February 6, 1997, at Duke Medical Center, Durham, N.C. He was retired as an Inspector for the Virginia Department of Transportation. He attended Whitmell Farm Life School in 1950, where he was recognized as the Star Farmer of 1950 by the Virginia Chapter of the Future Farmers of America. He was active with Danville Little League for 20 years and served on the Board of Directors with Danville Little League. He was preceded in death by his father, Jaby Wells Dallas, and mother, Fannie Fuller Dallas. Survivors include wife, Shirley Lewis Dallas of Danville; two sons, Barry Steven Dallas of Chatham and David Scott Dallas of Richmond; one daughter, Sally Dallas Wesley of Salem; one brother, Henry Clay Dallas of Whitmell; five sisters, Mary Dallas Gammon of Norfolk, Lois Dallas Agee of Richmond, Mabel Dallas Powell of Blanche, N.C., Jerrine Dallas Hamill of Springfield, and Virginia Dallas Murphy of Whitmell, and one grandson, Steven Dylan Wesley. Graveside services were held Saturday, February 8, 1997, in Highland Burial Park, with the Rev. Dr. S. Felton Carter officiating. JONES, Eddie D., 35, of 720 Blue Ridge Avenue, Bedford, died Friday, February 7, 1997, in Bedford County Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Bernice Jones; three brothers, Samuel Jones, James Jones Jr. and Lorenza Jones; six sisters, Jackie Jones, Mary Jones, Sharon Jones, Pamela Jones, Barbara King and Diane Jones; several aunts and uncles, and other relatives and friends. MEADOR, Lois Ayers, 83, of Bedford, passed a way Saturday, February 8, 1997 in the Bedford County Memorial Hospital. She was born October 22, 1913 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Harry M. Ayers and Kate Nichols Ayers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clark R. Meador, two brothers, Carlton R. Ayers and Elmer C. Ayers. She was a retired employee of Burlington Mills, and was a member of the Radford Baptist Church. She is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Sallie and Tommy Morgan, Bedford; a brother and sister-in-law, Edwin P. and Martha Ayers, Roanoke, a brother-in-law and wife, Billy and Lorraine Meador, Moneta; a sister-in-law, Ruth Windsor, Maryland; ten nieces; one nephew. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, February 10, 1997 at 2 p.m. from the Radford Baptist Church, by the Rev. Vernon DeLong and the Rev. Jim Carroll. Interment will follow in the Morgans Baptist Church Cemetery. PETERS, Herman Lee, 75, of Ferrum, passed away Thursday, February 6, 1997. Born December 16, 1921, he was a son of the late Jim and Bessie Smith Peters. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, a humble and gentle man that always welcomed you with a smile. He was preceded in death by a sister, Violet Dillon and brother, Melvin Peters. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Louise J. Peters, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Brenda Peters of Rocky Mount; daughter, Betty Bryant of Henry; five sisters, Linda Whorley, Tiny Turner, Noreta Hodges, Betty Meade, all of Ferrum, Lena Brown of Wirtz; two brothers, J. D. peters and Larry Peters, both of Bassett; grandson and his wife, Michael and Belinda Bryant of Hardy; great-granddaughter, Bridgit (Bridges) Bryant of Hardy; special nephew, Melvin peters of Ferrum. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, February 9, 1997, at Lynch Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Steve Witt officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial park. RICHARDSON, Mark Wayne, 40, of Wesley Chapel, Fla., died Tuesday, January 28, 1997, at the University Community Hospital, Tampa, Fla. He was born April 16, 1956 in Alexandria, the son of Floyd Wayne (Pete) Richardson and Juanita Craig Richardson of Pulaski. He went to Tampa two years ago and was employed as a systems analyst and computer programmer for Keane, Inc. of Tampa, Fla. He was Baptist by faith. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Pamela Belcher Richardson of Wesley Chapel, Fla.; and his grandmother, Elsa Lewis Richardson of Sylvatus. At his request, his remains were cremated. A memorial service will be held at the Memorial Baptist Church, Peppers Ferry Road, Pulaski on Saturday, February 15, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Patrick Coffey officiating. Friends may call at the home of his parents at any time and the family will be at the church to see friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, February 15, prior to the service. The family requests that memorial gifts may be made to Memorial Baptist Church, Pulaski, for the Handbell Fund or to a favorite charity of choice. Arrangements are by the family members.

SHAVER, Margaret McMahan, 86, of Blacksburg, died Friday, February 7, 1997 at Heritage Hall Health Care Center. She was born March 17, 1910 in Eggleston, Va. to the late Joseph Willard and Lillie Frances Caldwell Graves. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Henry C. McMahan, a son, Robert ``Bobby"" D. McMahan, a brother, Charlie Graves, and a sister, Virginia Louise Cromer. Mrs. Shaver was a long time member of the Blacksburg First Wesleyan Church, where she was Secretary of Sunday School for many years and she was also employed at Roses Department Store for many years. Mrs. Shaver is survived by her husband, C. Rudolph Shaver, Blacksburg; a son and two daughters-in-law, Danny J. and Martha McMahan, Blacksburg, and Fran McMahan, Patchogue, L.I., NY; six grandchildren, Ricky McMahan and Marilyn, Union, Mich., Tina McMahan, Blacksburg, Mark McMahan and Xiomara, Margate, Fla., Scott McMahan and Vicki, Middle Island, NY, Guy McMahan, Patchogue, L.I., NY, and Jill and Donovan Salerno, Havelock, N.C.; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Pauline Brookner, Blacksburg; nine stepchildren, Louise Rogers, Ellen S. Robinson and Peggy S. Matherley, all of Blacksburg, Patsy S. Snead, Fairfield, Calif. Sidney Shaver, Bill Shaver, Jimmy Shaver, Frank Shaver and Johnny Shaver, all of Blacksburg. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, February 10, 1997, at the Blacksburg First Wesleyan Church, with the Rev. John Hopkins and the Rev. Charles King officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg.
