COOK, Eller Q., (``Polly''), 100, of Lebanon, formerly of Carroll County, passed away Sunday February 9, 1997. Funeral 11 a.m. Wednesday, Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel, Hillsville.

DAVIS, Clara Frances Cooper, 90, of Pearisburg, died Monday morning, February 10, 1997 at Carilion-Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg. Mrs. Davis was born October 1, 1906 in Giles County and was a daughter of the late Charles Edward and Frances Wilburn Cooper. Mrs. Davis was also preceded in death by one brother, Charles Marvin Cooper, one sister, Hazel Cooper Smith and one son, Edward C. Davis. Mrs. Davis was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pearisburg, a member of the Ann S. Hoilman Sunday School Class and was a retired employee of Celanese in Narrows, Va. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Anna Mae and Charles Garnett Croy of Blacksburg, and Janice (Peggy) and William (Bill) Hollar of Pearisburg; two brothers, W. Patrick Cooper of Pearisburg and Ralph W. Cooper of Pearisburg; four grandsons, Norman Croy, Timothy, Todd and Toby Hollar; three great-grandsons, Charlie, Camden and Caden Croy; and one great-great-granddaughter, Stephanie Hollar. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, February 12, 1997 at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Pearisburg, Va., with the Rev. Freddrick L. Long and the Rev. Judith W. Long officiating, with burial following in Birchlawn Burial Park, Pearisburg, Va. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Givens Funeral Home.

ENGLAND, Frances Roy, 70, formerly of Boones Mill, passed away Monday, February 10, 1997, in Washington, D.C. Arrangements by Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home.

FRIEND, Alice Maude Cook, 92, of Max Meadows, crossed the river to a brighter place on Sunday, February 9, 1997. She was greeted by her parents, William Stuart and Mary Emma Reynolds Cook, to whom she was born on January 23, 1905; her three brothers; and five sisters; her husband, Gaylord Moffett Friend, who crossed the same river in 1981; a daughter, Ruby Friend Dean; and a daughter-in-law, Linda Stone Friend. She has gone ahead to help them prepare a place for her four sons and their families, Malcolm R. and Margaret Friend of Max Meadows, Gaylord and Billie Friend of Dallas, N.C., Edwin Friend of Roanoke, Hugh Brown Friend of Marion; her three daughters and their families, Evelyn F. and Nathaniel Alexander of Kent, Ohio, Jean F. Fortune of Pulaski, Mary F. Mabe of Wytheville; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Tuesday, 11 a.m., in the chapel of the Grubb Funeral Home with the interment in the Draper Valley Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery. MILLER, George McClung, 84, of Fredericksburg, died Friday, February 7, 1997, at his residence. He was born January 29, 1913 in Norton, son of the late Alexander Pressley Miller and Helen McClung Miller. He was a resident of Fauquier County until 1931. He was a farmer and produce vendor. He retired from the Virginia ABC Board in Fredericksburg. Surviving are a sister-in-law, Mary A. Miller of Leesburg, Fla.; nephews, Robert Miller of Austin, Texas, John Miller of Orlando, Fla., Fred Spracher of Lancaster, Pa.; nieces, Chris Andrus of Pensacola, Fla., Elinor Markham of Lynchburg, Helen B. Graves of Amissville, Sara E. Spracher of Greenbelt, Md.; great-niece, Cecile Graves Bartlett of Fredericksburg; great-great-niece, Jennifer Bartlett of Fredericksburg. QUESENBERRY, Roscoe Allen, 66, of Blacksburg, died Sunday night, February 9, 1997, at Montgomery Regional Hospital. He was a retired employee of RAAP, and was also a barber. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bram and Elizabeth Quesenberry, and is survived by his wife, Stella Mae Barnett Quesenberry; his sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen and Natalie Quesenberry, Roland B. Quesenberry of Christiansburg, Stuart D. and Lisa Quesenberry, Maynard D. and Faye Quesenberry, all of Blacksburg; a daughter, Betty J. Nugent of Covington; seven grandchildren, Brian Quesenberry, Dewayne Quesenberry, Bradley Quesenberry, Wilton Quesenberry, Emily Quesenberry, Alan Nugent, and Lindsey Nugent; one great-grandchild, Lucas; one sister, Shelby J. QUESENBERRY, Sylvia M., 86, of Hillsville, passed away Monday, February 10, 1997, in Twin County Regional Hospital, Galax. She was born April 6, 1910 in Carroll County. Surviving are four daughters and sons-in-law, Lorene Gardner, Hillsville, Martha and James Jennings, Danville, Maxine Alexander, Hillsville, Helen and Erby Moore, Hillsville; son and daughter-in-law, Ivan and Nancy Quesenberry, Hillsville; brother and sister-in-law, Bassil and Hilda Marshall, Owings Mill, Md.; sister-in-law, Gladys Marshall, Parkton, Md.; daughter-in-law and spouse, Marie and Bill McNeely, Draper; 22 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren. SHIVELY, Nelle Easter, 88, of Rocky Mount, died Sunday night, February 9, 1997 at her residence. She was the widow of E. Moyer Shively and was preceded in death by her son, Paul J. Shively. Mrs. Shively was well known by many citizens of Franklin County as she was employed by the U. S. Soil Conservation Service for 30 years. She was a long time member of the Franklin Heights Baptist Church. In earlier years Mrs. Shively was active in many organizations: Business & Professional Womens Club, the Major George Parker Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of American Colonies, state and local chapters of AARP, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She is survived by her son, Broaddus M. Shively and his wife, Jo B. Shively, Rocky Mount; four grandchildren, Thomas M. Shively, Rocky Mount, Elizabeth Shively Rutherfoord, and her husband, William H. Rutherfoord, Roanoke, Paul M. Shively, Fla., Dr. Joseph L. Shively, and his wife, Victoria D. Shively, Greensboro, N.C.; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth E. Shively, Ferrum. SHUPE, Doris Louise, 74, of Christiansburg, died Friday, February 7, 1997, at Montgomery Regional Hospital. ST. ONGE, William Christian, of McCrory, Arkansas, formerly of Roanoke, Va., died Sunday, February 9, 1997 in McCrory, Ark. He was associated with General Electric for 41 years prior to retirement. STANLEY, Buena R., 85, of Abingdon, died Sunday, February 9, 1997 at the Bristol Health Care Center. She was a native of Dickenson County and had lived in Abingdon since 1953. She attended public schools in Dickenson County, having graduated from the Hiwassee College. Mrs. Stanley had been a school teacher in Dickenson and Washington Counties for 33 years before retiring. She had been an active member of the Abingdon United Methodist Church for 44 years, where she was a former choir member and was currently a member of the Clara Tucker Perry Circle and the Wesley Bible Class. She was also a member of the Eastern Star and Delta Kappa Gamma. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. E. B. Stanley. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Jim R. and Mary Preston Stanley, Abingdon, Joe K. and Sue W. Stanley, Wytheville; two brothers, Clyde Reedy, Madisonville, Tenn., Emory Reedy, Orlando, Fla.; one sister, Mrs. Erma Joe Lane, Richmond; two stepsisters, Mrs. Lora Kiser, Orlando, Fla., Mrs. June Boggs, Lakeland, Fla., four grandchildren, Susie Wasmund, Orlando, Fla., Reed Stanley, Abingdon, Tracey Jo Crigger, Max Meadows, Matt Stanley, Bristol, Tenn; and several nieces and nephews. WADE, Lloyd Bishop, 71, of Roanoke went to be with his Lord, Monday, February 10, 1997. He was a Veteran of both World War II and the Korean Conflict serving in the U. S. Air Force, the U. S. Coast Guard and the U. S. Merchant Marines, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. Mr. Wade was a member of Shenandoah Baptist Church. He was predeceased by his first wife, Alve Thomas Wade and their son, Gary Michael Wade. Surviving are his wife, Mary West Wade; three daughters and their husbands, Robin and James French, Janet and Frank White, all of Roanoke, Alice and Bill Hogan, Salem; two step children, Bryon K. West, S. Lark West; sister, Mrs. Louise Ferris, Salem; three brothers, Ezra Wade, Vinton, Seboy Wade, San Antonio, Texas, Ammon Wade, Jackson, Miss.; 10 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
