Anthony Walker scored 22 points, and Eric Bowens added 19 points and a career-high 10 rebounds to lead Radford to a 76-71 victory over Charleston Southern on Saturday night in a Big South Conference game in Charleston, S.C.
The victory was the Highlanders' first over the Buccaneers in their past seven meetings.
Charleston Southern (14-10 overall, 7-5 conference) led by as many as six points in the first half, but Radford (13-11, 7-5) went on a 13-2 run in the final 3:08 to go up 33-28.
The Bucs stayed in the game on the strength of Brett Larrick's career-high 36 points, but never got closer than two points again.
In other games involving Virginia teams:
Marshall 79, VMI 77: Sidney Coles dribbled the length of the floor and hit a jumper in the final second to give the Thundering Herd a Southern Conference victory over the Keydets in Huntington, W.Va.
Marshall (17-7, 9-3) extended its home winning streak to 16 games and retained a one-game lead over Davidson in the Northern Division. The Herd avenged a 97-92 loss Jan.27 at Cameron Hall.
The Keydets (10-14, 6-6) trailed 67-57 with 6:04 left, but tied it at 77 on Jason Bell's free throw with a little less than eight seconds remaining. Bell had 12 points in the final six minutes and a career-high 27 for the game.
John Brannen led Marshall with 25 points, followed by Keith Veney with 24. Veney's seven 3-pointers gave him 388 for his career, 13 short of the NCAA Division I record of 401 by Radford's Doug Day.
Old Dominion 75, Virginia Commonwealth 70: Cal Bowdler had 19 points, 14 rebounds and seven blocks - all career highs - as the Monarchs snapped the Rams' seven-game winning streak with a CAA victory in Norfolk.
ODU (16-10, 7-6) also got a career-high 19 points from Brion Dunlap and set a school record with 15 blocks in winning for only the second time in eight games.
VCU (13-11, 8-6) missed out on a chance to tie North Carolina-Wilmington for the CAA lead. The Seahawks were upset 61-53 at Richmond.
Patrick Lee paced the Rams with 21 points, including 13 in the second half.
James Madison 63, East Carolina 60: Chatney Howard had 17 points, 10 rebounds and six assists, and the Dukes held off the Pirates in a Colonial Athletic Association game in Harrisonburg.
JMU (14-9, 8-5) also got 14 points from Charles Lott and Lamont Boozer in sweeping the season series. Lott had six in a row during a 16-3 run that helped the Dukes pull away.
East Carolina (15-8, 7-6) got 15 points from Othello Meadows and 13 from Morris Grooms. The Pirates, playing without Jonathan Kerner (broken hand) and former Patrick Henry High School standout Tim Basham (flu), outrebounded JMU 40-30, including 16-3 on the offensive glass. But East Carolina had only four assists and shot 35 percent from the field.
Richmond 61, North Carolina-Wilmington 53: Rick Edwards scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, including 11 at the offensive end, as the Spiders dumped the Seahawks in a CAA game in Richmond
The Spiders (9-13, 5-8) went up 51-41 on Daryl Oliver's 3-pointer with 9:42 left. That was the last field goal for Richmond, which shot 33.3 percent (17 of 51) from the field.
UNC Wilmington (14-12, 9-5) capitalized on the Spiders' drought, closing to 52-50 on a jumper by Stan Simmons with 3:43 left. Unable to hit from the field, the Spiders were 9-of-14 from the free-throw line for the remainder of the game.
Jarod Stevenson and Carlos Cueto scored 10 apiece for Richmond.
Simmons led the Seahawks with a career-high 23 points, and Billy Donlon had 10.
Liberty 66, Coastal Carolina 50: Peter Aluma scored 13 points and blocked four shots as the Flames dominated the Chanticleers in a Big South matchup in Conway, S.C.
Liberty (18-8, 8-3) led 13-2 and was up by as many as 17 points in the first half before Coastal (10-13, 5-6) went on a 21-6 run to close to 30-28 at halftime.
The Flames used a 14-4 run midway through the second half to take a 50-39 lead from which the Chanticleers never recovered.
Ben Avery led Coastal with 15 points.
William and Mary 89, George Mason 85: Randy Bracy scored a career-high 28 points, and the Tribe beat the Patriots in Williamsburg to record their school-record fourth consecutive CAA victory.
William and Mary (10-13, 7-6) led by as many as 21 early in the second half, then saw its margin cut to two in the final minute. George Mason made runs of 21-5 and 12-4 in the half, the second making it 85-83 with 48 seconds left.
Nate Langley led the Patriots (9-15, 3-11) with 27 points and Avery Cary added 17 points and 10 rebounds. Terence Jennings and Bobby Fitzgibbons scored 18 points each for the Tribe.
Christopher Newport 91, Ferrum 65: The Captains had six scorers in double figures as they blitzed the Panthers 91-65 in a Dixie Conference game in Ferrum.
Matt Bryant scored 14 points, Jeff McLean had 12 and Sean Phillips, Kenny Carter, Steve Butler and David Powell each scored 10 for Christopher Newport (17-5, 8-2).
Ferrum (12-10, 4-6) was paced by Rodney Ponzo's 19 points. Michael Hunter (Alleghany) scored 15 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for the Panthers.
Emory & Henry 92, Virginia Wesleyan 90, OT: Former Northside High School standout Justin Porterfield scored a career-high 27 points, including a desperation 3-point shot at the buzzer as the Wasps (9-14, 9-8) knocked off the Marlins (15-8, 12-5) in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference game in Emory.
Chris Barbour added 24 points and 10 rebounds for the Wasps. Two other former Timesland players scored in double figures for Emory & Henry: Donald Childress (William Byrd) had 12 and Tyrone Hash (Pulaski County) added 10.
James MacLeod finished with 29 points, including eight 3-pointers, for Virginia Wesleyan.
Virginia Western CC 96, Southwest Virginia CC 65: Robbie Huffman (Craig County) scored 36 points and Matt Woolwine (Salem) had 14 to lead the Blue Stars to a victory in Roanoke.
Corey Willis and Eric Logan each added 11 points for Virginia Western (4-4), which outscored Southwest Virginia 55-30 in the second half. Ben Hilton scored 35 to lead the visitors.
Bridgewater 89, Lynchburg 72: Jason Jones scored 27 points to lead the Eagles (17-6, 11-6) past the Hornets (11-12, 8-9) in an ODAC game in Lynchburg. Otis Tucker led the Hornets with 17 points and Rodney Early (Rockbridge County) added 13.
