BROOKMAN, Mary Fuller, 78, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, February 18, 1997. She was the widow of Ernest E. Brookman. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Gail and Richard Neal, Chamblissburg, Nancy and Bob Steele, Salem; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Kathy Brookman, Roanoke; three grandchildren, Michael, Kimberley, and Matthew Brookman; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Robert Chocklett, Vinton, Ella and Earl Bowyer, Chamblissburg; a brother and sister-in-law, Dudley (Bo) and Phyllis Meadows, Roanoke; a number of nieces and nephews. CONNER, Letha V. Higgins Miller, 74, of Rockbridge Baths, died Tuesday, February 18, 1997 at her residence. Mrs. Conner was born in Rockbridge Co., on September 2, 1922 and was the daughter of the late Robert G. Higgins and Vernie Knick Higgins. Mrs. Conner is survived by two daughters, Vicki Conner Bramlett, Blue Ridge, Charlotte Miller Cawley, Flagstaff, Ariz.; two brothers, Larue Higgins, Glasgow, Bobby Higgins, Stuarts Draft; six sisters, Mable Hostetter, Glasgow, Geraldine Sartain, Chester, Eldinia Paulus, Chester, Adalee Mundy, Claremont, Bernice McKemy, Laurel, Md., Pauline Wilson, Colonial Heights; four grandchildren, Shane R. DAY, Arvil Lee, 79, of Ha rrogate, Tenn., passed away Monday, February 17, 1997, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville. He was born November 27, 1917, in Claiborne County, Tenn., a son of the late Gillis and Edna Greer Day. He professed faith in Christ and joined Providence Baptist Church on September 11, 1939. He was a veteran of World War II and retired from Burlington Industries. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Lawrence Day, and one brother, Otis Day. Surviving are three sons, Stephen Day of California, Roger Day of Buchanan, Va., and Curtis Day of Michigan; two sisters, Elsie Madon and Betty Parine Sharpe of Cumberland Gap, Tenn.; one stepgrandson, and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home, with the Rev. Hollis Simmons and the Rev. Johnny Brown officiating. Music will be by the Providence Singers. Burial will follow in Scott Cemetery, Harrogate. Pallbearers will be Robert Sharpe, Shawn Sharpe, Arthur Day, Sillis Day Jr., Gillis Day and Von Day. DUNFORD, Larry Allen, 49, of Route #2, Narrows, died Tuesday, February 18, 1997. A lifelong resident of Giles County, he was born on January 21, 1949, and was the son of the late Joseph Elby and Nannie Louise Ferrell Dunford. He is survived by his wife, Frances Snidow Dunford of Narrows; a brother, Wallace Dunford of Narrows; and a sister, Ruby Jane Johnston of Narrows. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows with Rev. David Lawson officiating. Burial will follow in the Shrader Cemetery, Ro ute #2, Narrows. EAMES, Charlie Vernard, 93, of Christiansburg, died Monday, February 17, 1997, in a Salem nursing home. He was a retired employee of Southland Life Insurance Company. Preceded in death by his wife, Lucille C. Eames, he is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Bettye & William Lane, Roanoke; Fredona Stenger, Morgantown, W, VA; Judy and George Grozdits, Sommerset, Ky; son, D. GRASSO, Dorothy Johnson Moore, 69 of Hyattsville, MD formerly of Roanoke died Tuesday, February 18, 1997. She has worked as a waitress in Washington and Maryland for many years and when living in Roanoke attended Melrose Baptist Church. She was pr eceded in death by her son, Robert Wayne Moore. Her surviving family include her husband, August Grosso; a son, Russell Moore Baker and his wife Elizabeth; a daughter, Barbara Moore Rubin and husband Lou; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and James Guilliams; a close friend, Johnny Ghikas; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; 3 nieces; and 1 nephew. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 22, 1997 at 11 a.m. in the John M. Oakey and Son Chapel in Salem with the Reverend Robert Chittum. HUNDLEY, Juanita Louise Nichols, 65, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 18, 1997. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and a longtime devoted member of Shenandoah Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Jame s ``Sonny"" Hundley; a daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Stephen Early, Toano; a son and daughter-in-law, Norman and Joy Hundley, Roanoke; four granddaughters, Cheryl, Callee, Cheyanna, and Casey Joy Early, all of Toano; a brother, Harry Lee Nichols, Roanoke; a niece, Cathy King and her daughters, Traci and Jennifer; and longtime friend, Ada Kelley. Funeral services will be conducted at 12 noon, Saturday from Oakey's Roanoke Chapel with Dr. Robert L. Alderman and the Rev. Albin P. Crutchfield officiating. JOHNSON, Goldie Armstrong, 88, of Staunton, died Tuesday, February 18, 1997, at the Oak Hill Nursing Home. She was born in Collierstown on April 4, 1908, daughter of the late Howard G. and Ida Mae Morris Armstrong. She was a retir ed registered nurse for the C. & O. Hospital, a member of the Clifton Forge Presbyterian Church, Ladies Bible Class, Church circle, and a member of the C. & O. Nurses Alumni. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard V. Johnson in 1974, and is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Harry (Ashley) Lucas of Blacksburg, Mrs. Moeton (Coreta) Agnor of Fairfield, and Mrs. Wade (Glenden) Scott of Clifton Forge; a number of nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held Friday, February 21, 1997, at 2 p.m., from the Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge, with the Rev. Brad Langdon officiating. LAUTH, Amy Elizabeth, 28, beloved daughter of Mary Elyn Mc Nichols and Laurence Lauth, devoted friend and sister of Larry Lauth, Jr. and Laura Elyn Lauth, died Tuesday, February 18, 1997 at her home in Chapel Hill, N.C. Amy also leaves her stepfather, Robert Mc Nichols; stepmother, Zoila Laugh; stepbrother, Wade Mc Nichols; grandmothers, Mary Gregory and Kerrie Lauth; grandfather, Ralph Gregory; her devoted dog, Georgie; special friends, Kim Dolby and Gayle Danielsen; and many, many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who will greatly feel her loss. Amy's greatest joy in life was people. She made it her mission and life's work to support and love those around her. She is not gone, but lives on in the people whose lives she has changed. She lived her life without limitations measured by what she couldn't do, but rather by what she did. Visitation for family and friends will be held in the Meditation Chapel at Our Lady of Nazareth Catholic Church on Friday, February 21, 1997 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 5:30 to 7 p.m. The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 7 p.m. on Friday at Our Lady of Nazareth. LAW, Nannie Eva, 88, of Rocky Mount, passed away Monday, February 17, 1997. Born May 30, 1908, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Cora Hodges Turner. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben F. Law. NULL, Ruth Cole, 80, of Roanoke, passed away suddenly Monday, February 17, 1997, at Prince William Hospital, Manassas. Mrs. Null was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Eugene J. Null; and five children, Steven C. Null, Denver, Colo., Jacqueline N. Knight, Charleston, S.C., James K. Null, Fredericksburg, Vicki J . Null, Manassas, and Barbara N. Moore, Richmond; six grandchildren; and a sister, Elizabeth Evans, New Martinsville, W.Va.. PHILLIPS, James Lynn, (``Jimmy''), 50, of Vinton, passed away suddenly Tuesday, February 18, 1997, at home. He was a veteran, having served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force for 10 years. While serving in the Air Force, Jimmy received several commendations, including the Silver Star in connection with his 2 tours of duty in Vietnam. He was a devoted volunteer firefighter in Vinton and Roanoke County for 30 years. He was a current member of the Vinton Volunteer Fire Department, where he held the office of Deputy Chief. He had completed courses in advanced firefighting, was an instructor and held the designation of Firefighter 3 and Fire Officer 4. He was also a volunteer firefighter with the Clearbrook Volunteer Fire Department in Roanoke County with Company 7 from 1981 to 1983. While with Clearbrook, he held the offices of Assistant Chief and Chief. Jimmy also served on the Vinton First Aid Crew for 15 years. He was preceded in death by his father, Lynn I. Phillips; son-in-law, Emmett (Cotton) Hall; and niece, Jennifer Ellen Craft. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Settles Phillips; daughters and son-in-law, Wendy Hall, Stewartsville, Angela and Ernest Agee, Vinton; grandsons, Cody Hall, Jamie Agee; granddaughter, Breanna Agee; his mother, Geraldine Phillips; sisters and brothers-in-law, Nancy (Chee-Chee) and Elmer Craft, Vinton, Gaile and John Ashbury, Frederick, Md.; sisters-in-law and husbands, Bonnie and Wade Turner, Connie and Tom Freeman, Linda and Perry Overstreet, Donna and Ted Patrick; father-in-law, Charlie C. Settles; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services will be held at Lotz Vi nton Chapel 10 a.m. Friday, February 21, 1997, by the Rev. William Hungate and the Rev.
