AMSTUTZ, Nadine E., 69, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 20, 1997 after 15 months of illness. She was a member of Windsor Hills United Methodist Church. Surviving are her husband of 48 years the Rev. Kenneth D. Amstutz of Roanoke; one daughter, Dr. Celia Amstutz, Fairfax; also one sister of Baltimore, Md. Funeral services will be held at Windsor Hills United Methodist Church 11 a.m. Monday with The Rev. Donald E. Carlton and Dr. David Jarvis and The Rev. Bryan D. Oldham officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Windsor Hills United Methodist Church, the Good Samaritan Hospice or the ministry of your choice. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Oakey's South Chapel.
ANDERS, Elbert Jr., (``Jack''), 74, of Fries, passed away Thursday night in Blue Ridge Health & Rehabilitation Center in in Galax. Mr. Anders was born in Grayson County on August 31, 1922 to Elbert Anders and Sally Johnson Anders. In addition to his parents, Mr. Anders was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Mrs. Edith Bond Anders. He is survived by four sons and three daughters-in-law, Larry and Wanda Anders of Fries, Ralph and Sandra Anders of Blue Ridge, Wayne and Carolyn Anders of Fayetteville, N.C., and Nickey Anders of Roanoke; five sisters and four brothers-in-law, Mrs. Vada Williams, Mildred and Jessie Dowling, Logene and Harlow Miller, Brenda and Ralph O. Goodson, all of Fries, and Peggy and Kermit Douglas of Salem; one brother and sister-in-law, Ted and Shirley Anders of Falls Mills; four grandchildren and their spouses, Michael Anthony and Cindy Anders of Fries, Karen and Devan Walls of Meadows, N.C., Scott and Missy Anders of Raleigh, N.C., and Debbie and Eric Barto of Southern Pines, N.C.; five great-grandchildren, Brandon Walls, Ashley Walls, and Zackery Walls, all of Meadows, N.C., Michelle Anders and Christopher Anders, both of Stanley, N.C. Several nieces and nephews also survive, as well as several stepgrandchildren; and several stepgreat-grandchildren. The funeral service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Rev. Camet Spivey officiating. Burial will follow in Monta Vista Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
BANDY, Sada Jane, (``Tee''), 67, of Blacksburg, died Thursday, February 20, 1997, at Heritage Hall Health Care Center. She was born on March 1, 1929 in Montgomery County to the late W. A. and Viola Camper Bandy, and was also preceded in death by a brother, William ``Bill'' Bandy. She is survived by two nephews; and several cousins. A graveside service will be conducted at 4 p.m. on Sunday, February 23, 1997, in Westview Cemetery, Blacksburg, with the Rev. Herbert Hobbs officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday at McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.

CREGGER, Brenda Alice Alderman, 39, of 633 Hudson Drive, Dublin, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 20, 1997, after fighting a seven-month courageous battle with cancer in the Roanoke Memorial Rehabilitation Cancer Center, Roanoke. She is the daughter of Alice Rebecca McKay Alderman French and the late Robert Thomas Alderman. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Iva Newcomb McKay, and paternal grandparents, Oscar Heath and Edna Hodge Alderman. She was a member of the Bob White Blvd. Church of God, Pulaski, and a secretary with the American-Electric Power Company, Pulaski, with 20 years of service. She is survived by her husband, Teddy Glenn Cregger, Dublin; three daughters, Alyson Lorraine (Lori) Cregger of the home, Teddie Miranda Cregger of the home, and Kasandra (Kasey) Nicole Cregger of the home; mother, Alice Rebecca McKay Alderman French, Pulaski; stepfather, Franklin D. French, Pulaski; maternal grandfather, Rev. J. L. McKay, Meherrin; one sister, Rebecca (Becky) Alderman, Pulaski; two brothers, Thomas Adam Alderman, Pulaski, Allen Robert Alderman, Piney; stepbrother, Frankie French, Pulaski. Funeral service will be held Sunday, 2:30 p.m., at the Bob White Blvd. Church of God, Pulaski, with the Pastor, Robert E. Owens, officiating. Interment will follow in the Alderman Family Cemetery, Barren Springs. DELLINGER, Misty Dawn, 20, of Christiansburg, died Wednesday, February 19, 1997. Surviving are her mother and stepfather, Sue and Brian Garrett; her father and stepmother, Thomas and Sherry Dellinger, and one brother, James Dellinger, all of Christiansburg; her grandparents, Jack and Ruth Lunsford of Dublin, Lydia Dellin ger, and Glenn and Shelby Garrett; her best friend, Sarah Jackson; uncles, Mike Fouts of Christiansburg and Eric Mutter of Peterstown, W.Va., and one aunt, Linda Lustig of Long Island, N.Y. GRAY, Hazel Virginia, 67, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, February 21, 1997. She is survived by a devoted brother and sister-in-law, Calvin J. and Marie W. Gray, Roanoke; brother and sister-in-law, Eugene and Nancy Gray, Norfolk; nieces and nephews, David A. Gray, Eugena Eisuagle, Richard Gray, Jeffrey Gray, Steven Gray; also surviving are special friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, February 24, 1997 at Lotz Vinton Chapel with the Rev. Robert Lanier officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton. HACKNEY, Frances Jones, 50, of Roanok e County, died Friday, February 21, 1997. Frances was retired from the accounts payable department of Precision Fabric Group, with 26 years of service. Surviving are her husband, Thomas D. Hackney; her son, Timothy S. Hackney of Roanoke; her parents, George and Juanita Jones of Roanoke; her brothers, George D. Jones Jr. of Amherst, and Roy M. Jones and his wife, Donna of Roanoke; her sister, Vickie Lynn Jones of Roanoke; her grandmother, Mae D. Jones of Vinton; her father-in-law, Sidney A. Hackney and his wife, Vera of Roanoke; her sisters-in-law, Shirley M. Hackney, and Mary L. Liakos and her husband, Johnny, all of Roanoke; a brother-in-law, Charles P. Wray and his wife, Shirley of Troutville; two very special friends, Leslie and Joseph Sparks; also, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at Oakey's Vinton Chapel on Monday, February 24, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Tim Wright officiating. Interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton. HALL, Mamie Wright Riggins, 91, of Route 5, Wytheville, died Friday, February 21, 1997, in the Malin Health Care Center. She was born in Wythe County, the daughter of the late J. W. and Sarah Ellen Morris Wright, and was a member of the Wytheville Assembly of God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vivian Lee Hall; two sisters, Lillian Gertrude Lawson and Ora E. Hales. She is survived by three sisters, Helen Nancy Cartwright of Dublin, Hazel Lawson of Max Meadows, Mary Virginia Corder of Baltimore, Md.; two brothers, Glenn Wright of Max Meadows, William Bert Wright of Wytheville. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 23, 1997, at 2 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel in Wytheville, with the Rev. Dan Moore officiating. Interment will follow in the Draper Valley Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Barnett Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, or at the residence of her sister, Hazel Lawson, or her brother, Glenn Wright, at any time. HOLZER, Adolph Edward, 76, of Moneta, passed away Thursday, February 20, 1997. Born on December 29, 1920, he was a son of the late Adolph and Ursula Dumaurice Holzer. He was a graduate of City College of New York and New York University, with a graduate degree in psychology. He was retired from the State of Maryland, where he worked as an administrator in the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene evaluating programs and policies. He was active in the Trinity Ecumenical Parish, where he was the first treasurer and was currently a trustee. Surviving are his wife, Barbara Holzer; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jean and Bob Villwock of Huddleston, and Lorraine and John Brinkley of Roanoke; one son, Eric Holzer of Germantown, Md., and two grandchildren, Jesse and Kyle Brinkley of Roanoke. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, February 24, 1997, at Resurrection Catholic Church in Moneta, with the Rev. Gary Scheidt officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 until 9 p.m. Saturday, and 2 until 4 p.m. Sunday. JAMES, Helen L., 88, of Christiansburg, went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 21, 1997, from Montgomery Regional Hospital. Preceded in death by her husband, Frank P. James, and a grandson, Frank Jeffery James, she is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Frank P. Jr. and Sybil R. James, and one daughter and son-in-law, Colleen J. and Donald W. Huffman, all of Roanoke; four grandchildren, Terry H. Allaun, Kelly H. Ellis, Rebecca J. Sours and Kay J. Martin; six great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Ava L. Spence of Richmond and Katherine L. Hash of Grundy. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, February 24, at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Robert L. Alderman. LOWE, Mattie Painter, 80, of Lexington, died Friday, February 21, 1997, in the Stonewall Jackson Hospital, Lexington. Mrs. Lowe was born in Augusta Co., on October 4, 1916, and was a daughter of the late Arthur C. Painter and Bessie Wilcher Painter. She was a member of the Poplar Hill Presbyterian Church, Lexington. She was preceded in death by a son, Francis Milton Lowe, one son-in-law, Wayne Hite, and two grandchildren, Tony Lee Garrett and Jo Ann Garrett. Mrs. Lowe is survived by a daughter, Mary Lowe Hite, Lexington; a daughter and son-in-law, Ruth & John Lee Stoner, Natural Bridge Station; a son and daughter-in-law, John & Mary Lowe, Lexington; a daughter-in-law, Virginia Lowe, Buena Vista; two sisters, Rose P. Sweet, Oak Grove Manor, Waynesboro; Nellie Smiley, Lexington; one brother, Walter L. Painter, Staunton; two grandchildren, Randolph Ward Lowe, Lexington and John Hunter Stoner, Natural Bridge Station. MARSHALL, Mae Dishon, 87, of Radford, passed away Thursday morning, February 20, 1997, at Wheatland Hills Nursing Care at Radford. She was preceded in death by her husband, Isaac Marshall; sons-in-law, Jack Shepard and Curtis Lester. Surviving are two sons, Monroe Marshall and fiancee, Gloria Anderson, Christiansburg, Paul and Loretta Marshall of Radford; three daughters, Ella Mae Shepard, Roanoke, Peggy Lester, Floyd, Dollie and Wayne Lester, Christiansburg; eleven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Laura Graham, Radford, Betty Phillips, Pulaski, Eurella Bishop, Roanoke; one brother, Alvis Dishon, Hiwassee. The funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday from the Christiansburg Church of Christ, conducted by Mr. C. E. Mannon and Mr. Tom Hodge. Interment will be in the Page Cemetery, Snowville. MILLER, Mattie Driskill, 74, of Roanoke, died Thursday, February 20, 1997. Mattie was a long time member of Grandin Court Baptist Church, where she had served as a Sunday Sch ool Teacher and GA Leader. She was a member of the Roanoke Valley Square Dancer's and was a retired Bookkeeper from Cave Spring High School with 20 years service. Surviving are her husband of 52 years, Leon Miller; her son, Michael Miller, Fort Myers Beach, Fla.; her sisters, Bettie Angle, Martha Linnane, both of Roanoke, Arlene Butler, Huntington, W. Va.; her brother and sister-in-law, George A. and Vera Driskill, Roanoke; also several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at Oakey's South Chapel, Monday, February 24, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Charles A. Watkins and the Rev. Carol N. Johnston officiating. Interment in Evergreen Burial Park. MITCHELL, Irvin, 65, of Lakeland, Florida, formerly of Roanoke, Va. died Wednesday, February 19, 1997. Survivors include his wife, Jenny; two daughters, Penny Jo and Marylou; one son, Mitch; three brothers, Curtis, Jean and Michael Mitchell; four sisters, Barbara Moore, Nancy Orange, Lena Welch, Doris Carter. MOTT, Ellen Hooge, 49, of Murphy, N.C., died in Ojai, Calif. on Sunday, February 16, 1997, of metastatic melanoma. Miss Mott was born in Newport, R.I., and graduated from the University of Kentucky. She was a self-employed businesswoman in Murphy, and a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army. She is survived by her father, Captain Charles D. Mott, U.S. Navy, Ret., of Vienna; her brother, Joseph W. H. Mott of Roanoke; a niece and three nephews; and her close friend, Sharon Chambers of Murphy. Ellen will be interred in the columbarium at Arlington National Cemetery, with full military honors
MYERS, Frank C. Jr., 71, of Eagle Rock, died Friday morning, February 21, 1997. He was retired from the CSX Railway, and had served in the U.S. Army in World War II. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy S. Myers; a daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Charlie Hayslett; a brother, Thomas B. Myers, all of Eagle Rock; two grandchildren, Jason and Christie Hayslett. The family will receive friends at the Eagle Rock Funeral Home Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral will be Monday, February 24, 1997, at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev.
