Sophomore Rebecca Bryant scored the 1,000th point of her career Tuesday, but Roanoke Valley Christian couldn't control Heather Pennfather of the Seton School in a 65-51 loss in the first round of the Virginia Independent Schools girls' tournament in Manassas.
Pennfather was unstoppable, scoring 39 points in Seton's win.
RVC's Gina Guthrie, another sophomore who scored her 1,000th point two weeks ago, added 17. Bryant has 1,016 for her career and Guthrie has 1,255. Roanoke Valley Christian finished its season with a 24-5 record.
Bishop O'Connell 61, North Cross 28: Bishop O'Connell had been using its pressure defense on Group AAA teams most of this season. In the first round of the VIS tournament, it used its press to beat the Raiders in Arlington.
Michele Hamilton led North Cross (12-9) with 14 points. LeNeeka White led Bishop O'Connell (11-20) with 16.
