Rocky Mount Planning and Zoning Administrator Chris Whitlow resigned this week, a Town Council member said Friday.
Whitlow has accepted another job offer, according to a letter he submitted to Town Manager Mark Henne on Thursday.
Town Council, which met Thursday night, accepted the resignation. Whitlow's last day on the job will be March12.
He was the first person hired to be the town planner - a job created just a couple of years ago.
Whitlow's resignation leaves the town with two major posts to fill.
The town offered the job of finance director to a candidate last month, but he turned it down, citing his desire to stay in the private sector instead of taking a job in the public eye.
Donna Coleman resigned as finance director late last year to take a job with Norfolk Southern Corp. in Roanoke.
Whitlow and Henne could not be reached for comment Friday.
