Upcoming:
* The Christiansburg Town Council will meet at 7:30 tonight in the Municipal Building, 100 E. Main St. The meeting will include a closed-door session on the possibility of buying the downtown post office building, which will become vacant this summer when the postal service moves its Christiansburg operations to a new, expanded site behind the Marketplace shopping center.
* The Blacksburg Planning Commission meets at 7:30 tonight in the Municipal Building, 300 S. Main St. Included on the agenda are: a request to build a 2,569 square-foot addition in the basement level and a 1,457 square-foot addition to the main level of the Newman House, Virginia Tech's off-campus Catholic center. The plan also calls for the construction of extra parking spaces. The Newman House is at 203 Otey St., near the Tech campus.
A request that the 48.3 acres at the 1700 block of North Main Street be returned to the town's Agricultural and Forestal district will be considered. The land was removed from the district in 1995, and was part of the Patton's Grant retirement community proposal, which was later withdrawn.
